Do you like the T-Cross? Well, the Volkswagen ID.2 GTX will kill him...

VW ID. 2all concept car

The Volkswagen Group is making a big bet on electrification . Its latest major innovation is the ID.7, which debuted a few weeks ago, but in just a couple of years its lineup will expand considerably. The ID.2all, presented as a concept, shows what the electric successor to the Polo will look like, and more. And that "more" will take the form of a Volkswagen ID.2 GTX, with which the brand will bid farewell to another large SUV.

Volkswagen's SUV lineup is one of the most extensive on the market . But electrification and all that it entails will also mark a turning point. If you cast your mind back, you'll recall that in recent weeks we told you a sportier version of the ID.2 was on the way. Well, it seems the brand isn't just working in that direction, as it has also given the green light to an SUV derivative . Watch out…

The new Volkswagen ID.2 GTX is scheduled to hit the market in 2026 on the MEB+ platform…

Volkswagen T-Cross

It was once speculated that the Volkswagen ID.2 GTX would follow the same path as the ID.3 GTX . However, the echo of those rumors now points in a very different direction. Apparently, this version would be the turning point, marking the end of the already legendary and successful Volkswagen T-Cross . Therefore, the sportier iteration with which they will compete against the Alpine 5 will bear the GTI name, as is customary for the brand's more racing-oriented versions…

In this way, they will try to put the brakes on Renault's plans for its future electric R4 . But the sources announcing this turn of events also reveal some technical details. And it seems that Volkswagen's smaller SUVs will continue as before: without all-wheel drive . Yes, because the platform that will underpin this hypothetical ID.2 GTX will be the MEB+, which already supports the ID.2 all prototype.

Therefore, it's a simpler and cheaper alternative to the MEB platform that underpins the ID.4 . Hence, its range consists exclusively of front-wheel-drive versions, with no all-wheel drive options. They do confirm, however, that there will be batteries with capacities ranging from 38 to 56 kWh. This will offer a range of between 300 and 400 kilometers . Furthermore, this battery will require a 125 kW DC fast charger.

And you might be wondering , when will the Volkswagen ID.2 GTX arrive on the market? Well, the source indicates it will arrive in 2026, just one year after the ID.2. Shortly before it, the electric successor to the Tiguan will arrive, and shortly after, an SUV about which all that is known is that it will use the Trinity platform. Furthermore, Skoda is already working on a clone of the ID.2 GTX (or ID.2X in internal code) that will be manufactured at Seat's technical center in Martorell.
