Although many may not know it, the Honda CR-V is one of the oldest SUVs in its segment . Indeed, throughout its nearly three decades of existence, it has witnessed the evolution of the market. So much so, that when the Nissan Qashqai was launched back in 2007, it was already debuting its third generation. Currently, the Japanese automaker is selling the fifth generation, although at first glance it may seem like a simple evolution of the fourth generation, which was launched in 2012.
The same thing has happened to it as to the Civic: its life cycle hasn't followed industry norms . That's why, even though it arrived four years ago, those in charge are already thinking about a new version. And that's why they're already working on it. We've known this for months, and spy photographers have confirmed it with their work. Now, an untimely leak could spoil the surprise . Or could it?
Everything indicates that the new Honda CR-V will look a lot like the one in this patent...

If you cast your mind back, you'll remember why we last talked about the Honda CR-V. Indeed, it was because of some renders that surfaced and helped shed some light on its design . Well, the leak you see above confirms almost exactly what we said then. If this is the final design of the new CR-V, we're looking at a product that, rather than revolutionizing, seems to be evolving…
However, this is a leaked image from the design patent, so changes are still possible. Nevertheless, it confirms that the headlights will be more angular, similar to the new HR-V we tested a few days ago . The front grille , also larger, will look more aggressive . There are no photos of the rear view at the moment, although it appears the taillights will be redesigned. The side profile, as always, is both elegant and understated.
Despite being based on a photo, rumors suggest the next CR-V will be larger than the current model . This could be true, but only partially, as it depends on whether it's a global design or if it will have two versions like the HR-V. The B-SUV we know in Europe is a C-SUV for the United States, which is why the brand wants the design to be offered in two body sizes . In any case, it will be some time before we know for sure.
Although there's still no official debut date , rumors suggest it will happen before the end of 2022. We'll have to keep a close eye on things, because this leak might prompt Honda to make a move…
