Volvo was one of the first premium manufacturers to embrace electrification . Their strategy was both ambitious and risky, as they embraced this paradigm when few other brands believed in it. First, they announced the removal of diesel engines from their lineup . In addition, alongside this initiative, they launched a wide range of mild-hybrid, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions to reduce emissions.
The result: Volvo has been a pioneer in the electrification of its models . Initially, they focused on the most profitable market segments, as they needed to recoup the investment made in developing their technology. The culmination of their work is embodied in the EX90, although it's not the only one. In a few months, a new model will arrive with which they hope to win over a younger audience: the Volvo EX30.
The Volvo EX30, in patents, sports a silhouette very similar to that of the EX90... How could its patent have leaked...?

The information we have so far about the new Volvo EX30 is limited . But the leaked patent gives us plenty of clues about what's to come. If you cast your mind back, you'll remember that the brand itself took the initiative and released a teaser image of the EX90 alongside a smaller model that we all suspected was this EX30. Well, this patent confirms that the design matches what we already imaginedā¦
The new EX30 is essentially a mini EX90, a fact confirmed by its headlights . But that's not the only design element that directly links it to its larger sibling. The body lines are very similar, although the brand has made some differences to make it more accessible to a wider audience . These differences include the use of conventional door handles and the wider C-pillar at its base.
Looking at the rear, we can see that the headlights might be different. Compared to the EX90, the cluster would be a single rectangular unit , and there would be another row of LEDs above the tailgate pillar. However, we'll have to wait for the patent to be confirmed and see it in person, as rumors suggest it resembles the Polestar . Regarding the leak, our colleagues at Cochespias have intercepted it, but the source remains unknownā¦
What can we expect from the EX30 when it arrives in 2023

Now that we've reviewed the design of the new Volvo EX30, let's talk about what we can expect from it. Initially, rumors suggested it would use the CMA platform from the Volvo XC40. However, the Swedish automaker belongs to the Chinese company Geely, which in turn controls Smart. Well, everything points to the EX30 being based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) that underpins the XC1 and XC3 . This would be the key to making it affordableā¦
And profitable, since Volvo wants Generation Z to focus on the EX30 . To that end, they're exploring a subscription system through Care by Volvo, with pricing similar to Lynk & Co, Geely's subsidiary. In any case, being a clone of the #1 and #3 models, power outputs are expected to range between 272 and 428 hp . Furthermore, the batteries should also be shared, although the ranges might vary slightly.
