It seems unbelievable, but the first generation of the Volkswagen Touareg is about to turn 2. You may have forgotten, but it debuted in August 2002, and a lot has changed since then. So much so, that you might not even remember that the folks in Wolfsburg gave it the green light to compete with BMW's X5 . And the worst part is that its platform was the same one that, shortly afterward, gave rise to the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne.
In any case, with the Touareg, Volkswagen fully entered the E-SUV segment . While it's not the best-selling model on the market today, it was certainly one of the most important in terms of innovation at the time. Now, to celebrate its upcoming 20th anniversary, they've decided to create a special edition . They didn't exactly rack their brains to name it; it's simply called the "Edition 2," and the changes are few but noticeable.
The most powerful version of the Volkswagen Touareg "Edition 20" is the 6 kW (280 hp) V380,8 TSI PHEV...

As you can imagine, the aesthetics of the Volkswagen Touareg Edition 20 remain largely unchanged . In fact, it does feature a new special paint finish called Meloe Blue. For contrast, it sports 20-inch gloss-lacquered alloy wheels from the Bogotá line. Finally, the wheel arches and rear diffuser are finished in piano black . And, of course, the "Edition 20" logo is present on the B-pillar.
Inside, the Touareg Edition 20 also features some changes. They're equally subtle, but noticeable in the illuminated door sills with the edition logo and the black Savona leather seats with special stitching. The dashboard also includes red and beige stitching, which is also found on the steering wheel and door inserts. Finally, the gearshift lever is leather-wrapped and displays the "Edition 20" logo.
In terms of equipment, Volkswagen has equipped the Touareg Edition 20 with features such as Travel Assist and the Innovision Cockpit with a 15-inch infotainment screen. Regarding the engine range, the Bavarian SUV boasts a diverse selection, including diesel options . In fact, the 3.0 V6 TDI engine is available in two power levels: 170 kW (231 hp) with 500 Nm of torque or 210 kW (285 hp) with 600 Nm of maximum torque.
The gasoline option is the 3.0 V6 TSI engine with 250 kW (340 hp) and 450 Nm of torque. Finally, the most powerful version is the Plug-in Hybrid V6 TSI with 280 kW (380,8 hp) of power and 600 Nm of torque. All of these are managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission and Volkswagen's effective 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. If you like it and want one, it's now available to order with a price of €77.530.
