Despite its challenges, the Volkswagen Group is forging ahead with its plans to electrify its brands. For its current projects, it will make the most of the MEB platform's resources until its successor is ready. Meanwhile, its brands continue working to ensure a steady stream of new models. One of the brands making the most progress is Volkswagen. And the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer , which has just debuted as a concept, is another example…
Before we tell you what we do and don't know about it, let us tell you something. It's the first all-electric Volkswagen station wagon in the brand's history . As its name suggests, it's simply the station wagon version of the electric ID.7, but everything could change with it. The reason? It's the most versatile body style in the ID.7 range and, moreover, a catalyst for change. We'll tell you why it could be a turning point, in addition to the official secrets.
The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer presents a look very similar to what the Passat Variant already sports…

As you know, the mid-size sedan segment isn't exactly thriving . The best example of this is the latest generation of the Volkswagen Passat. The Bavarian automaker has abandoned the sedan version and focused all its efforts on the Variant station wagon. If they're so confident with such a legendary model, imagine how dangerous or threatening the ID.7 Tourer could be to sales of its sedan sibling, the ID.7 . But there's more…
If you look closely at the ID.7 Tourer's styling , despite its camouflage, you'll notice it's very similar to the Passat Variant . While there are differences between the two models, as the latter is based on its sibling, frankly, the Passat Variant and ID.7 Tourer could easily be mistaken for one and the same. However, aside from the front end and shared elements, the rear is quite attractive, featuring more angular and pronounced full LED taillights.
The sloping roofline and roof rails give it a dynamic look. The D-pillar is also more steeply raked, which, from a distance, might remind you of the trendy "faux shooting brake" style . The tailgate has a simple design, topped by a discreet spoiler and deflectors along the sides of the rear window. The whole package is perfectly complemented by generous alloy wheels.
Its technique, for now, is an "unknown" but not its trunk volume or Cx...

The technical specifications of the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer remain a mystery. It's no secret that it's based on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, but the brand has yet to announce its powertrain options . There won't be a flood of new features either, as it will almost certainly be shared with the ID.7 sedan . Even so, it's worth keeping an eye on developments, as its increased cargo capacity could mean more powerful or capable versions.
Not only in terms of trunk volume, but also battery capacity. According to Volkswagen, the ID.7 Tourer's trunk volume with five passengers is 545 liters . With the rear seats folded down, the cargo volume, which is almost two meters long, can increase to 1.714 liters. These figures aren't the same as the Passat Variant (690 to 1.920 liters), but they are generous enough to meet the needs of any average family.
Finally, we must discuss the aerodynamic drag coefficient . The ID.7 Tourer's Cd, according to the manufacturer, is a respectable 0,24 . This is almost identical to the ID.7 sedan, which achieves a Cd of 0,23, so the station wagon is expected to also offer high energy efficiency. If so, its batteries could provide a range approaching the official 700 kilometers. However, in real-world driving, this might be closer to 400 kilometers…
According to Volkswagen, the new ID.7 Tourer will be launched in Europe in 2024. However, we'll have to wait a few months to see its final design… Patience…
