Toyota is currently launching the latest generation of the Corolla . The brand's best-selling model worldwide is crucial to its present and future strategy, which is why they have begun its rollout in Japan . Currently, they are introducing a new trim level to complement those already available at local dealerships.
The Toyota Corolla Sport , as it's called, should, judging by its name, offer more power or performance. However, this isn't the case, as the Japanese understand automobiles differently than Europeans or Americans. The main differences lie in slight aesthetic and equipment tweaks , primarily limited to new paint colors and more customization options for the exterior.
Aesthetically speaking, the main changes noticeable in the Corolla Sport are the following. The front Toyota logo has been replaced by a "C" symbolizing the model type (compact). The body colors now include a new option, Oxide Bronze Metallic, along with redesigned alloy wheels and an interior available in two different color schemes.
The standard equipment of the Toyota Corolla Sport remains at the same level as before, but adds some new features. Among them is the new remote mechanical diagnostic system . Thanks to this system, and its integration into the infotainment system, the driver will always know when the vehicle needs maintenance or if it has a breakdown or is due for a recall.
Mechanically , the Japanese compact is powered by the same hybrid system used in the C-HR. This means it will feature a 1.8-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine paired with a small electric motor, delivering a combined output of 122 hp . This is complemented by a 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder D-4T gasoline engine producing 116 hp . The only available transmission is a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and all-wheel drive will be offered as an option.
All these technologies and innovations will arrive in Europe with the third generation of the Auris , although for now we'll have to be content with seeing them in Japan. The wait is almost over.
