Apply the parking brake

Hand brake

Surely more than once, we have applied the handbrake and we see that the car doesn't stop long enough, having to pull more of it. This is quite common in the classic handbrakes... I say classic because now the electric parking brakes that you simply have to press a button to activate them.

Over time, the parking brake loosens and needs to be adjusted. Adjusting it is a very simple task, that we can do ourselves at home with the help of some tools.

Normally, the parking brake can be adjusted both from the lever itself, and under the car. The adjustment method is quite similar in both cases, although we will have more difficulties if it is under the car, since it will be more difficult to access. In some cases, it can also be adjusted on the rear brake shoes.

If we have to make the adjustment on the lever, we must bear in mind that it will possibly be necessary remove the coverings that are around of the parking brake, to have better access and be able to work comfortably.

Apply the parking brake

Once we have located where the handbrake of our car is adjusted, we will simply have to adjust it. For this, we must tighten the nut that sits next to the parking brake cables (with the handbrake released) with the appropriate key.

How much should we adjust? Nor can we adjust it to the maximum, since the wheels are they would be stopped. We must adjust it approximately so that the parking brake goes up 3 points from your resting state.

Now we will simply have to mount all the cladding again, check that everything has been mounted correctly and check if the handbrake is correctly adjusted.

I tried to tighten it like that and I couldn't. I don't know what they would do with the car but I had to remove the drums to tighten the brake shoes from the wheels as well, and now it does brake. Only with the lever tensioner I did not get anything, I had never seen anything like it. . The truth
