The decline of the D-segment is forcing manufacturers to rethink their strategies . If you didn't know, after China, the US is the market where these types of vehicles perform best. Although pickups and SUVs dominate, sedans still hold a significant market share. The problem is that as the years go by, there are fewer options, and those that remain face increasing competition.

That's why powerful manufacturers like General Motors, Ford, and Toyota are choosing to discontinue their sedans . On the other hand, there are others who, despite slowly declining, believe they still have a future. One example of this struggle is the Subaru Legacy. Do you remember it? Well, its latest iteration was released a couple of years ago, and to better compete with SUVs, it has decided to update its selling points…

Subaru Legacy Sport MY2023

The most striking feature of the 2023 Subaru Legacy is its front end . It's now more aggressive and assertive than before, thanks to a larger, more prominent grille. The headlights, with LED technology, are also new, as is the bumper. And that's about it, although depending on the chosen version, it will incorporate its own unique details and elements. For example, the Sport version features a thin red line across the grille and a subtle spoiler.

As an added bonus, it also features 18-inch alloy wheels , a sport suspension, and a sliding glass roof. Inside, the changes are limited to safety, as it comes standard with the effective EyeSight Driver Assist Technology system . This now includes a wide-angle camera that improves pedestrian and cyclist recognition at intersections and provides automatic emergency steering.

In addition to all this, Subaru also adds reverse automatic braking and a driver distraction mitigation system. Finally, another area that has seen changes is the powertrain. The Legacy is now available with a 2.5-liter turbocharged Boxer engine that delivers 193 kW (262 hp) of power and 375 Nm of torque. The Lineartronic automatic transmission is paired with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

Customers seeking a less powerful option can still choose the previous engine. It's a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Boxer engine producing 135 kW (184 hp) and 238 Nm of torque. The transmission and all-wheel-drive system are the same. All in all, we'd love to see it in Europe because such a well-made sedan deserves to be enjoyed... Don't you think?
