The production of the new Nissan Frontier starts, but not in Spain...

Nissan Frontier - begins production of all-new 2020

How we wish the new generation Nissan Frontier were sold in Europe . The name might not ring a bell, but if we tell you it's what our Navara is known as in markets like the United States, things change. In this part of the world, despite its high sales volume, its fortunes have taken a turn. Yes, because if you didn't already know, the Japanese firm has decided to remove this pickup from its European lineup.

The reasons given for this strategic move are well-founded, but it has left us dismayed. And that's coming from someone who isn't exactly a die-hard fan of these types of vehicles. However, we agree that they are very useful for certain kinds of work. Nevertheless, the launch of the new Nissan Frontier is getting closer, and therefore its production needs to begin . And this is what the brand has announced to us now…

The Nissan Frontier for North and Central America is manufactured in Canton, Mississippi.

As you know, because we've mentioned it before, the development of the new Nissan Frontier has been global . While it won't be available in Europe, it has been very successful in diverse regions of the world, such as the Middle East, China, and the Philippines. For this reason, its production will be handled by various manufacturing facilities. One of the most important, due to its history, is the one located in the United States.

This is the plant located in Canton, Mississippi . The first time this factory assembled a Frontier was in 2012, and it has continued to do so ever since. However, the powertrain under the hood came from Nissan's Decherd, Tennessee plant. Nevertheless, to produce this new model, they have had to adapt their assembly lines, especially to include the new robots that perform the most demanding tasks.

And you might be wondering, what's so special about the start of Nissan Frontier production? Well, although it might seem like nothing, there is. It's a farewell , in this case a double one. We already mentioned the first when we said it won't be sold in Europe. But the second is more painful and difficult. We're referring to Nissan's decision to close its factory in Barcelona , which had been manufacturing our Navara for many years.

This "abandonment" marks a turning point in the company's relationship with our country . It seems that, given how things have unfolded, there's no going back, but perhaps things will change in the future. After all, it belongs to the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, and if investments allow, we might even manufacture an electric car for them. It's a shame the Navara is dying this way, although we're glad the Frontier is continuing on its path…
