The oil, the blood of your engine

Motor oil

Oil is one of the fundamental elements for the proper functioning of our car's engine. The mission of the oil is lubricate and protect the engine, since it is responsible for forming an oil film between the moving parts of the engine, thereby reducing wear and temperature.

Periodically is very important check the oil level of our car and check that it is between the minimum and the maximum of the rod. In case of being below the minimum, it is necessary to top up a little oil.

As we all know, it is necessary to replace the oil periodically, as indicated by the manufacturer because, with the passage of time and the kilometers, loses its lubricating properties. We must also not forget about replace oil filter for a new one.

In the market we can find a lots of types of oil for our car, with different grades and compositions. To begin with, we have two types of oil, Multigrade and Monograde.

Multigrade oil is the most used Currently in cars. Within the Multigrades we find Synthetic, Semi-Synthetic and Mineral oils. An example of these oils are 5w30 or 5w40. These synthetic oils can work with temperatures below -30º C and also above 50º C.

When buying oil for our car, we must buy the grade recommended by the manufacturer, since if we buy oil with another viscosity we can have serious problems in our vehicle.

On the other hand we have the oils monogrades, very little used today. these oils they have a single viscosity such as SAE 40 or SAE 50, for example, and are often used as fillers.

All the oils that we will find must be tested by the American Petroleum Institute and so it must appear on the oil can itself with the acronym API.

Over the years, car engines have evolved a lot, using a wide variety of oils with different properties. For this reason, there are several API standards, which are adjusted to each engine, so we must buy the oil corresponding to our car.

Finally, it is worth remembering that, in the event of replacing the car oil in our own home, we must take the used oil to a Clean Point for proper treatment, not throwing it directly into the trash.

Hello. Thus, it is a bit difficult to know, but it may be that the sensor that is in the crankcase and that measures the oil level has poor contact or is damaged; check it.

Excellent contribution to those who do not know much or nothing about automotive mechanics. I have a 2000 Grand Caravan and I want to put oil in it but I can't remove the cap, it won't come out. Can I put the oil in it by removing the hose that connects to the filter? Thank you
