Perhaps you didn't know, or you'd simply forgotten, but Mahindra & Mahindra is one of India's largest car manufacturers . While not as prominent globally, it rivals Tata Motors head-to-head. Furthermore, it was one of the pioneering groups in electrifying the automotive sector in its country. The problem is that its vehicles weren't well-designed, and it ended up losing all the ground it had gained.
To solve this problem, they took control of Reva. Remember them? Well, even then, all their hard work has come to nothing. They started seeing signs of improvement with SsangYong , but then, overnight, they stopped wanting to work with them. However, before abandoning them to their fate, they did acquire the technology behind one of their upcoming models, the electric Mahindra XUV300 . And it will be hitting the market soon.
The new electric Mahindra XUV300 is nothing more than a copy with an extended battle of the electric SsangYont Tivoli...
If you cast your mind back, you'll remember we already talked about the Mahindra XUV300 . At the time, we explained that it was a rebadged version of the SsangYong Tivoli we know in Europe. It sounds harsh to say it, but so far it's been their best-selling model, as its development was focused on the European market. Furthermore, the company was working on a fully electric version, which is still up in the air due to their financial difficulties.
However, Mahindra has disregarded all of that and finalized the development of the electric XUV300 to their liking. Furthermore, it seems they are putting the finishing touches on the project, as they have announced an official launch date. According to several sources, including Autocar India, the brand has stated that it will be unveiled in January 2023. Sales should then begin within the first quarter of the year.
In terms of technical specifications, everything points to the electric Mahindra XUV300 being powered by a 150 hp drivetrain . It will be powered by high-density NMC cell batteries supplied by LG Chem. However, they haven't specified the battery's energy capacity or the range it might provide. But one detail is worth noting: this electric XUV300 will have a longer wheelbase than the Tivoli.
Finally, we can't overlook another small detail. The electric XUV300 could be called the XUV400 to differentiate it from its combustion-engine sibling . In any case, we'll have to wait for its official debut to know if the brand's plans come to fruition and if it's likely to arrive in Europe.
