Test Peugeot 3008 GT Line, the formula for success

Test Peugeot 3008 GT Line 2.0 BlueHDi 150

The fashion of SUV cars does not stop growing and growing. So much so that this segment is already the third best-selling in our country, behind segments B and C. Some manufacturers have decided to abandon their medium-sized minivans, replacing them with these C-SUVs. One of them has been Peugeot, with the Peugeot 3008. This model originally came as a compact minivan, but has suffered a brutal change to only keep his name.

The Peugeot 3008 is the bet of the French firm for a very competitive segment in which, by the way, it is not doing badly at all. Its comfort when entering, exiting or loading and unloading the trunk, the highest driving position that allows better control of traffic, as well as a differentiated design both for the exterior and for the interior, they make it an attractive model for consumers. Today, at Actualidad Motor, we test it associated with the GT Line finish, with a 2 hp 150-litre diesel engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

With an innovative and differentiated exterior

We said that this Peugeot 3008 has a different design from that of other manufacturers. This, normally, tends to be a somewhat risky strategy, but the French have achieved an image that, even being somewhat different from what is usual in the market, liked by most of the public.

In the front we find a robust "nose" with sharp shapes that, in part, reminds us of the Peugeot 308 due to the shapes of its characteristic headlights. The grille is large, integrates the brand logo and is protected by chrome contours. The bumper shapes are very sharp and aggressive, which increases the feeling of sportiness. In the lower central part we find a protection finished in gray, while at the ends they are less resistant and black.

We change the perspective to a side view and we observe that the black guards from the front corners continue through the wheel arches and along the lower area of โ€‹โ€‹the sides. The pillars are finished in black, conveying a sensation of a floating roof that is accentuated in our unit with the darkened rear windows. Nail chrome lines They appear at the top of the doors, at the bottom of the windows, and at the bottom of the doors, providing elegance. The two-tone rims of the GT Line 18-inch finish fit like a glove.

Already in his rear we can contemplate a not very large lunette that ends at a higher height than usual. Just below, the gate is shiny black, housing the sides of the pilot lights with three-dimensional shapes that keep the image of the brand with three vertical lines in red for lighting. Further down we return to the white tone of the bodywork and in the lower part a horizontal chrome slat reappears, this time thicker. The lower area is plastic in black, housing those that pretend to be two exhaust outlets chrome (but they are not).

The dimensions of this Peugeot 3008 are 4,45 meters long, 1,84 wide and 1,62 high, while its wheelbase is 2,67 meters.

You can consider a trip with five adults

In the Peugeot 3008 we feel very loose in its two front seats despite the fact that the central tunnel is somewhat wider than in most competing cars. Perhaps it is a visual perception, since the entire dashboard is so free of buttons and has a small steering wheel, it is likely that the view deceives us. In any case, the distance in height and width is good.

already sitting in his second row of seats, we can highlight the generous height free to the roof, because even with the panoramic glass roof (which always lowers the roof trim a few centimeters), we have enough room to get to touch the head. The width It is also good in the two lateral seats, being perhaps its only weak point, or less good, the distance for the knees. It is not bad, but it is true that there are some alternatives that improve this level.

La central plazaAlthough it is harder, narrower and more uncomfortable, it is better and more usable than that of other similar cars. Something that we did not like at all is the central headrest, because it does not have height adjustment and is very low, which can be dangerous in case we are hit hard from behind.

In turn, the trunk of the Peugeot 3008 is one of the best of the C-SUV segment, offering a cargo space of 520 liters. If we lower the seats, the space grows to 1.482 liters. The floor can be placed at two heights, being able to place it in the highest so that it is usually flush if we lower the second row, or in the lower one in order to take better advantage of the entire cargo compartment and be able to place higher objects. A hatch in the central seat allows the transport of long objects, such as skis. The gate is electric and can be opened and closedin our unit passing the foot under of the bumper.

Very technological and quality in most elements, butโ€ฆ

The interior design of this Peugeot 3008 leaves us with a slightly bittersweet taste. Aesthetically it is very striking, because it is not usual to find a steering wheel so small that you can see the instrument panel above it, a dashboard so horizontal and free of buttons. At the level of aesthetic design, the truth is that Peugeot has been able to create a interior that does not leave indifferent.

Test Peugeot 3008 GT Line 2.0 BlueHDi 150 hp

The dashboard has a very good touch As for its materials, because in most areas they are soft. Nor do noises appear easily in the lower part, unless we press very hard in the corners. looks like a interior that will stand the test of time. The central screen, which is in a raised position, is easy to see, although it still has functions that are so basic that they should be outside of it, such as air conditioning management; something that I, personally, do not like at all.

El instrument panel is fully digital with a color screen and configurable from 12,3 inches. The information presented on this screen will depend on the chosen configuration, being able to choose between five different modes. In any case, its legibility is good, since the information is presented in a correct size and the definition of the screen is very good. As you know, this instrument panel is above the steering wheel and improves safety, since we take our eyes off the road less when we want to consult it. A pity that some of the satellite controls of the steering column use quite old-fashioned designs and materials, typical of a Peugeot 307.

Test Peugeot 3008 GT Line 2.0 BlueHDi 150 hp

For the frame to be above the steering wheel, the steering ring has to be smaller and at a lower height. This is strange for the first few minutes, but it's easy to get used to. However, I have not felt completely comfortable at the controls, because this configuration to display the information means that, for my taste, the steering wheel is too low. is also flattened at the bottom and slightly at the top top, which doesn't help either. To top it off, the depth regulation is not very great, so I have to force my usual posture and I'm closer to the pedals than I'd like if I want the steering wheel to "drop" at the sweet spot.

Their seating They haven't convinced me too much either. It is true that aesthetically they have an attractive design, but they have seemed somewhat hard and its central line on the back has bothered me. In any case, other people have found the passenger seat comfortable, so it is also a perception according to taste. The driver's has electrical adjustments and several memories. Both front seats have a massage function, with different operating modes and intensities, and lumbar support adjustment.

Mechanical range of the Peugeot 3008

Test Peugeot 3008 GT Line 2.0 BlueHDi 150 hp

The mechanical range of the Peugeot 3008 consists of three versions with gasoline engines and five with diesel mechanics. In gasoline we have the 1.2 PureTech 130 engine, associated with a 6-speed manual gearbox or the EAT6 torque converter automatic, and a 1.6 hp 165 THP that will always be combined with the automatic transmission. The diesel offer it goes through a 1.6 hp 100 BlueHDi with manual transmission, the same block but with 120 hp power available in both manual and automatic transmission, a 2.0 hp 150 BlueHDi manual (the unit tested) and an identical 2.0 hp 180 BlueHDi only Associated with the EAT6 transmission and the superior GT finish. There is no possibility of having four-wheel drive.

As we said, our Peugeot 3008 unit is associated with the mechanical four-cylinder 2.0 BlueHDi 150 hp. It delivers its maximum power at 3.750 rpm, although it is not necessary to take it so high in turns because its maximum torque of 370 Nm, a considerable figure, appears at 2.000 rpm. It approves an average consumption of 4,4 liters per 100 km and a top speed of 207 km/h.

Although the maximum torque is important, from idle to past 1.600 rpm the power delivery is low, which is also normal and nothing that seems fatal to us. Regarding the consumption obtained during the test, the trip computer has registered a average consumption of 5,7 l/100 km, spending about 5,2 l/100 on highway and motorway routes at legal maximums. Honestly, some consumption more than good for the power, surface exposed to the air and size of your tires.

This motorization complies with solvency its function, as it moves with agility and allows rapid overtaking of the Peugeot 3008. It is not necessary to constantly use the gear change, as its recovery capabilities are good thanks to the 370 Nm torque. Likewise, with the 1.6 hp 120 version, which costs about 1.800 euros less, it would be enough for daily life. As we have already said, it is not a version that demands a lot of fuel despite its displacement and power. Nor does it transmit vibrations or loud noises to the passenger compartment, which decrease a few seconds after starting as it takes temperature.

Agile and with a great set-up

Test Peugeot 3008 GT Line 2.0 BlueHDi 150 hp

Peugeot has done a great job in terms of the configuration of this model. The Peugeot 3008 is a car comfortable (as for its chassis), perhaps a dry hair before very sudden irregularities, but much more comfortable than hard. Usually filters potholes well. But not for this, and because it is an SUV, we can say that its body tilts and is clumsy when facing curves. If we pick up the pace on a twisty stretch maintains composure without complaining. We were surprised by your agility, as it reacts well to changes in support and does not easily lose the line in the event of encountering a crack in the middle of a curve.

In the console we find a sports button, which basically stiffens the steering response a bit and makes the engine response more reactive; pressing less on the right pedal we gain speed more quickly. The feel of the change is not exactly the best on the market, but then we have to remember that we are dealing with an SUV and that its sporting claims are minimal. The direction guides well and is rather direct, but it conveys little information about what happens under the wheels.

Test Peugeot 3008 GT Line 2.0 BlueHDi 150 hp

Su behavior on highways It is correct, like most vehicles in this segment, although as I have said before, its seat has not been comfortable for me. Facing a trip with five people is feasible because of its interior space, its load capacity and also because of the engine's response. In city It is a car that is easy to drive. The small steering wheel helps us to gain a plus in agility, since changing direction implies less movement of the arms.

Ending up

The new Peugeot 3008 is a totally new car that uses the 308 platform. However, this SUV is more technological and offers a more innovative, both inside and outside. If you like this type of design, technology and you are looking for an SUV, you will hardly find a more balanced alternative. The 3008 does not have it easy, since the C-SUV segment is full of participants, the most demanded in Spain being the Nissan Qashqai, Opel Mokka X, Hyundai Tucson y Seat Ateca. In any case, at the moment it is curdling very well in our market.

I just bought a Peugeot 208 but if I could I would change it and buy this one. I love it from the beginning to the end.

At the moment, those are the available versions. It does not seem that Peugeot has too many intentions to "hybridize" it at the moment; although you never know? Cheers

Yes, if you're not looking for more than enough performance or if you normally won't ride heavily loaded, the 120 hp version will suffice for regular use. Good luck with it if you finally buy it?
