Audi is immersed in a deep renovation of its entire range, and a good part of it involves renaming some models with new numbers. From now on, even numbers will be reserved for 100% electric versions (A4, Q4, A6...) and odd numbers for cars that still maintain some type of thermal mechanics, whether with or without electrification (A3, A5, A7, Q3...) In this context, it is time to talk about the arrival of the new generation of Audi A5 2025, which translates to nothing less than the third since its birth in the mid-2000s.
Beyond the generational leap in aesthetic, technological or mechanical terms, the main novelty is that the new A5 It includes the Avant family variant that the A4 leaves behind. conventional, something that is new to the A5 nomenclature. However, it does so, just like the Sedan bodywork, remaining faithful to the dynamic style of the A5…
Design of the new Audi A5 2025
On the outside, both versions adopt important new features compared to the previous A4 and A5. In fact, they inherit the new design language that we have already seen in the latest releases from the four rings brand.
In addition to the obvious modifications (grille, bumpers, new wheel designs up to 20 inches...) there are new headlights and taillights with the possibility of customizing the daytime light signature from eight available options. In addition, the rear optics inherit the latest OLED technology from the Q6 e-tron to incorporate the Car-to-X communication. In other words, by means of the rear modules, the car warns other drivers of possible dangers or risks, such as autonomous emergency braking, by projecting two emergency triangles at both ends.
In terms of dimensions, the new A5 reaches both variants: Meters long 4,83 (60 mm more than before), 1,86 m wide (13 mm more) and 1,47 m high. The wheelbase is 2,9 metres, which is an increase of almost 7 cm compared to the previous A5. In addition, both variants will still have five doors (in the Sportback the tailgate remains fully open, including the rear window.)
Needless to say, the S5, the most high-performance model in the catalogue For the moment (because the radical RS5 will arrive at the beginning of the year...), it has specific details that accentuate its sporty character, such as exclusive wheels, bumpers and air intakes.
An interior filled with technology
If it changes on the outside, on the inside it is a real revolution. And in this sense it does become more “familiar” but loses some of its dynamic spirit. In addition to improving habitability, technology invades practically all the space for the driver and passenger, thanks to three screens from left to right with 11,9, 14,5 and 10,9 inches (the latter, optional.) In essence, it is the configuration that Porsche debuted in the new Macan EV with that third screen exclusively for the co-pilot and, of course, in terms of response, graphics and so on, the MMI system is impeccable.
The steering wheel is also completely new, inherited from the Q6 e-tron with the lower and upper parts flattened and, although it takes some time to adapt, it gives a fresh and innovative touch to the interior. That said, I personally I'm much more into round steering wheels like the one we continue to see in an A3, for example.
As is usual with Audi, especially in models of a higher calibre, The adjustments and perceived quality get a very good gradeBy the way, the panoramic glass roof now features PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) technology, which makes it possible to change from opaque to transparent at the touch of a button.
In the second row of seats there is good space and remarkable comfort even for three average-sized adults, and just behind we find Trunks with capacities of 445 and 476 liters or up to 1.300 and 1,424, depending on whether we opt for the sedan or the station wagon and whether or not we fold down the backrests.
5 Audi A2025 engines: something for everyone
The mechanical range of the new A5 will be composed Initially four options: two 2.0 TFSI petrol models with 150 and 204 hp, a 2.0 TDI with 204 hp with MHEV plus technology and Eco label and a 6 TFSI V3.0 reserved for the S5 which will also have the same advanced microhybrid technology and will have 367 hp.
Later, in early 2025, the radical RS5 and some plug-in versions with 0 Emissions label.
Sticking to the first contact and the sensations behind the wheel, it is worth mentioning that we were able to briefly test all these mechanics, the most interesting being probably the 150 HP petrol and the diesel with mild hybridisation. The latter shines both for its very notable performance and for its quite tight consumptions (around 5-6 l/100 km in the combined cycle), while the less powerful alternative of the TFSI block will position itself as the most balanced in terms of final price.
Debut of the new PPC platform
However, in the dynamic aspect another element takes center stage, and that is that this new A5 represents the global premiere of the new PPC platform (Premium Combustion Platform) which allows, in addition to incorporating this new MHEV plus technology, to mass-produce other models in an easier and more flexible way and to increase the degree of comfort, smoothness and safety at the wheel.
The truth is that, whether with the adaptive suspension or with any of the fixed suspensions available, the new A5 feels like a car Extremely stable, agile and comfortable at the same time on all imaginable surfaces. In this regard, a happy owner of a first-generation A5 unit after the restyling tells you and I confirm that the dynamic leap that the second generation made with respect to its predecessor was already tremendous and, in this case, Audi has once again improved a product that already seemed well-rounded.
