Mobility in large cities is changing rapidly. A couple of decades ago, diesel city cars with ridiculously low fuel consumption figures were all the rage. The best example of this trend was Volkswagen and its subsidiary brands. Do you remember the Volkswagen Lupo 3L and the Seat Arosa 3L? They were essentially the same car, but they advertised minimal fuel consumption by offering a diesel engine with just enough power.
However, that has changed, and today electromobility is what sells . Small electric vehicles with a range designed for urban environments. That's why manufacturers are working on proposals like the Citroën Ami or others like the Squad Solar City Car . Does this model ring a bell? It didn't for us either, but we have to tell you that it's one of the most original offerings to have arrived in recent months. Pay attention, because it aims to shake things up.
The Squad Solar City Car has 5 HP of power and is approved as a light quadricycle
To begin, we'll tell you that Squad Mobility is a Netherlands-based company that sells mobility services . Two former Lightyear employees, Robert Hoevers and Chris Klok, collaborated on the creation of the Solar City Car. Together, they've developed a two-seater electric quadricycle, homologated as an L6e, that offers ample freedom of movement in large cities. Furthermore, its appealing design and concept contribute to its youthful appeal.
This small model stands out for its exposed tubular chassis , large windows , and corner wheels. It features movable doors and a solar panel on the roof to extend its range by about 20 kilometers per day. The interior design is equally simple, with a digital cockpit, optional climate control, and a smartphone dock for accessing services like navigation.
Furthermore, following the example of the Citroën Ami, it includes storage compartments and a rear storage area that can be expanded by folding the front passenger seat flat. Regarding its powertrain, it features two electric motors located at the rear, delivering a combined output of 5 hp . According to the manufacturer, this setup allows it to reach a top speed of 45 km/h and a range of 100 km.
Finally, it's worth noting that the Squad is equipped with interchangeable battery packs that can be swapped and charged at home using standard wall outlets. If all goes according to plan, it will arrive next year with a starting price of €6.250 plus VAT. So, if you want one, you can pre-order it now, although you might prefer to wait for the more capable and powerful four-seater version , which will be homologated as an L7 quadricycle.
