First details of Smart #1, the brand's first SUV

smart #1 winter test

Smart has just officially confirmed the upcoming launch of its first crossover , the Smart #1 . We've known about this project for some time now, as the Daimler-owned brand has showcased prototypes in recent months. However, it wasn't until now that they released the first details of this model.

As expected, the Smart #1 (yes, it seems that's what it will be called) is an electric SUV . But its exterior dimensions mean it can no longer be classified as a city car, as it measures a whopping 4,3 meters in length. That's a far cry from the current Smart Fortwo 's mere 2,7 meters or Forfour 's 3,5 meters .

This first Smart SUV will be the beginning of a complete renovation of the company, the result of the alliance with the Geely company.

The brand has released some images of the final stages of development of its next model, which should arrive on the market in the final months of 2022. It is currently testing all systems, and especially battery performance, in extreme cold climates , with temperatures as low as -40 degrees.

clever #1

I am convinced that the smart #1 will excite future customers both in China and Europe, setting new urban mobility trends and creating powerful brand experiences wherever it appears.

Although the published images of the Smart #1 show a camouflaged unit, many details are visible. The most notable aspect is that, design-wise, it's clearly recognizable as a Smart , but as we mentioned, it seems to abandon its very small car philosophy in favor of greater ease of use in the city.

In theory, and although we don't yet have official data on battery size, motor power, or range, it will be a car suitable for open road use with reasonable confidence. Furthermore, the manufacturer claims its drag coefficient is 0.29 , very low for its body shape. This has been achieved, among other things, thanks to the active front grille and retractable door handles.

In the coming months we will learn all the details of this Smart #1, the brand's first SUV.
