After weeks and weeks of waiting, the day has come. The brand from the Czech Republic reveals in full and in detail the new Skoda Octavia RS. This new generation of the sports sedan is of great importance because, in addition to being available with the traditional engines, it debuts a new plug-in hybrid mechanism. Yes, the Skoda Octavia RS iV will be the first hybrid RS.
As many of you know, the Octavia RS has been a success generation after generation. This version combines all the practicality, interior space and good rolling, with a somewhat more aggressive set-up and, above all, engines that, without being really extreme, add a touch more spice to the whole. And all this while keeping a affordable price. Let's see the main keys of this new generation.
Sports aesthetic nuances
We start with the exterior design because, although we have not mentioned it before, the versions with the RS signature always bring cosmetic changes. Without being a really aggressive design, the truth is that the changes are noticeable and put their extra sportiness to the visual set of this Skoda.
The bumper are more dynamic, there are multiple details in glossy black, the tires are specific and larger (18-inch standard and 19-inch optional), red brake calipers, the wheel arches are slightly oversized, we also find more marked sidewalls and, unfortunately, what appear to be simulated exhaust outlets... small spoiler in the trunk, which goes in black in the sedan body and in the color of the body in the station wagon.
More spicy inside
in the passenger compartment the style of the exterior is repeated, that is, the main forms and structure of any Octavia, but use the typical additives of all sports. We have a sports steering wheel, specific upholstery -some in Alcantara-, digital instrument panel with extended information, more dynamic interior finishes, sports seats and some moldings created especially for the RS. The typical red additions or stainless steel pedals are not lacking.
Skoda Octavia RS iV motorization: hybridization arrives
But for what we will remember in the future this Skoda Octavia RS iV will not be for its aesthetics, but for being the first electrified RS. We already knew for a few months that the Octavia RS was going to be a plug-in hybrid model, because the brand said so, but a few weeks ago it was also known that it would maintain the traditional gasoline and diesel engines.
The main novelty is the hybrid powertrain, so we'll start with it. The Skoda Octavia RS iV PHEV uses a 1.4 TSI petrol engine that develops 150 hp, adding an electric motor to its six-speed DSG gearbox to reach the 245 CV joint power. The maximum torque is 400 Nm. Its benefits are a 0 to 100 km/h in 7,3 seconds and a maximum speed of 225 km/h.
Thanks to 13 kWh battery, the hybrid Skoda Octavia RS iV is capable of traveling up to 60 kilometers in electric mode. In addition, the response is guaranteed, since the electric motor generates up to 330 Nm of torque.
Gasoline? Diesel?
The RS version of the Octavia has been presented, but only in its plug-in hybrid variant. As we mentioned above, a leak confirmed weeks ago that A 2.0 hp 245 TSI mechanic would also be available and also a diesel version, with a 2.0 TDI developing 200 hp. Of course, these variants that remain to be officially revealed are expected to do so at the end of summer.
However, we cannot confirm or rule out that these gasoline and diesel variants of the Octavia RS 2020 arrive in our country. We have already had a surprise recently with the Volkswagen Golf GTD, which will not be available in our country. Precisely, that Golf GTD uses the same 2-liter diesel engine that will mount the Skoda Octavia RS diesel.
