Skoda Kodiaq 1.5 mHEV 150 HP Eco label test. Is it enough?

Skoda Kodiaq 2025

Skoda puts the second generation of its model on sale Large SUV with up to 7 seats, the Skoda KodiaqTo see it first hand and have a first contact, we have travelled to Zaragoza, where the national presentation of this car to the press was held.

Thus, the new Skoda Kodiaq seeks its piece of the pie in the D-SUV segment, where its main rivals are the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Peugeot 5008 or Renault Espace among others; all of them also with up to 7 seats. By the way, the new Kodiaq has a price of 42.960 euros (33.550 euros with discounts) In its most accessible mechanical version, which is the one we have tested, the 1.5 TSI mHEV 150 hp with DGT Eco label.

Aesthetic and lighting innovations

The new Kodiaq grows about 6 centimeters in its total length, reaching 4,76 meters, with a 2,79-metre wheelbase. It also updates its exterior design lines, where la Front grille and lighting take center stage, both for the headlights and for the possibility of illuminating the aforementioned grille.

The long roof has been optimized in line to improve airflow, reducing aerodynamic drag, to which the designs of the bumpers, mirrors and wheels have also contributed. rear lights They have changed quite a bit compared to the previous one, giving the Skoda Kodiaq a more modern look. By the way, The wheels range from 17 to 20 inches..

A well-resolved interior

Skoda Kodiaq interior test

The interior has received a complete makeover and, as is usual these days,, screens are the main protagonists and minimalism is used when it comes to buttons. We have a 10,25-inch instrument panel that can be customized both in terms of information and in the way it is presented.

Meanwhile, in the center of the dashboard is the screen multimedia, which goes up to 12,9 inches. The truth is, improving this aspect visually modernizes the interior of the new Skoda Kodiaq a lot compared to the first generation, but it does not mean that it is more practical, since now more functions are controlled from here.

Luckily, below we have three rotating wheels with a button included and a 1,25-inch screen. They are called Smart DialsBy pressing them we change their functions, which can be temperature control and fan speed of the air conditioning, seat heating or audio volume control, among others. Honestly, with the previous model we had fewer distractions.

Continuing along this central area, although further down, we have two wireless charging surfaces to be able to charge two phones at the same time, which are also cooled to avoid overheating of the phones. In the console, further back, we have a good modular compartment for storing objects and water bottles, as well as a storage box under the central armrest. Speaking of spaces, on the passenger side of the dashboard we have a double glove box.

On the other hand, The quality impression is correct due to the materials used, as well as the adjustments between the different parts both in the dashboard itself and in the doors and different trims. As far as space is concerned, there is a great deal of room in the front in all directions and the seat and steering wheel adjustments are good, allowing for an elevated driving position.

This is what the rear seats look like

At second row of the Skoda Kodiaq We have very good dimensions for two adults of practically any size to travel, as there is plenty of head and leg room, as well as foot space. However, three adults will not travel comfortably because the central seat is narrower and more uncomfortable and because, as in most cars, there is a lack of width and the transmission tunnel is a nuisance.

The third row It is not nearly as practical, which is to be expected. You need to be agile to get in and, although the distance between your knees can be correct if you move the second row forward a little, they are too high because the floor is raised. I have not felt comfortable with my back either. It is better to reserve these seats for children and short journeys.

The trunk of the Skoda Kodiaq

The trunk capacity of the Skoda Kodiaq It varies depending on whether our unit has two or three rows of seats, and whether it is plug-in.. In the case of cars with five seats, the volume is up to 910 liters, while the seven-seat units have a capacity of 340 litres with all seats operational and up to 845 litres when the two rear seats are folded down.

At least that is the data communicated by the Czech brand, but the truth is that it is not a standard measurement of capacity, as they do not use the usual VDA litre system.

Engines available

Skoda Kodiaq engine test

The mechanical range of the Skoda Kodiaq is made up of engines that receive the environmental badges C, Eco and Zero from the DGTThere are no manual transmission variants, but the fact that you can choose diesel engines is a plus, which suits this car very well due to its road-going and long-distance approach. The 204 hp petrol option will arrive later, as will the 265 hp Skoda Kodiaq RS.

Skoda Kodiaq Eco test

For this first contact with the new Kodiaq we have opted for a very tempting mechanics, especially for two reasons. The first is the price, as it is the most economical option; while the second is that it has the eco label from the DGT. However, in terms of performance it is not over the top.

I am referring to the 1.5 TSI mHEV petrol engine, which develops 150 hp and 250 Nm, approving a consumption of 5,9 l / 100 km. This engine, which is only sold with front-wheel drive, has a small electric support which helps with acceleration and, on the other hand, allows for longer use of the Start&Stop system, among other things.

For mainly urban use, or even for travelling on the motorway at a steady pace through areas without any uneven ground, it is a very sensible option. However, in my opinion It falls short of power when we demand a little performance, not offering very solvent recoveries.

Skoda Kodiaq test drive

It is when overtaking, joining or when we need to accelerate on steep slopes when We miss having more benefitsThe 2.0 hp 150 TDI engine is probably much more pleasant in this respect, but with it the Eco label is lost. The same will happen with the 2.0 hp 204 TSI that will arrive later, which will not have electric support and, therefore, will not have the Eco environmental badge either.

Otherwise, the Skoda Kodiaq is A smooth and comfortable car in almost all circumstances, offering a comfortable suspension setup, correct sound insulation, a good feeling of spaciousness and interior light, easy driving and good visibility. In addition, the driving modes change the character, although it never becomes radical.

We will try to test it thoroughly and for several days later, as it is an interesting car for those customers looking for a very spacious SUV with a good price-product ratio. Honestly, the biggest drawback I see with this Skoda Kodiaq is the fact that it does not have a diesel option and Eco label. However, The 204 hp plug-in hybrid could be a fantastic alternative if we have the possibility to charge at home.
