Today there have been some news stories in the world of motorsport . One is a statement from McLaren confirming they didn't want Sebastian Vettel. They were very clear about it in Woking: " We knew it would be Sainz or Ricciardo ." On another note, an agreement to hold two races at Silverstone has also been officially announced. As you know, to improve logistics and prevent the tightly packed championship from becoming chaotic, efforts are underway to hold several races at the same circuit, thus avoiding unnecessary travel, moving all the equipment, and so on.
But I think none of them have generated as much excitement and anticipation as a rumor coming from France. While reports from Italy and Germany indicated that Sebastian Vettel wouldn't continue at Ferrari, and from Spain pointed to an imminent signing of Carlos Sainz , now the French are adding fuel to the fire regarding the numerous rumors linking Fernando Alonso to Renault . Martin Brundle said it last year, he's said it again recently, and now he's commented once more that " Alonso is dying to return to F1" and that everything depends on how much money Renault has to spend.
Now, reports from France claim that " serious talks " have taken place between both parties to reach an agreement. This comes from the French publication Auto Hebdo. And this has now been confirmed: Sebastian Vettel would be out of F1, and Fernando Alonso would return to the team with which he won his two world championships. He would team up with the young Esteban Ocon, and although they won't have a top-tier car, he could have fun and get back into shape during this time, preparing him for the 2022 F1 regulation changes. In fact, Fernando had already confirmed that he was planning to return when the regulations change to test the new cars. But what happened with Vettel, along with Sainz's and Ricciardo's moves, may have accelerated this process.
The truth is, Renault is a good place for him to return to ; it's practically his home. He won his world championships with them. Furthermore, he could afford to compete with Toyota in the WEC with the hypercars and also in IndyCar with other teams, since they aren't direct competitors like Honda might be. But on the other hand… the truth is, seeing him return to fight for a place in Q3 isn't very motivating for Spanish fans. Unless they know that they've already made significant progress adapting their car to the new 2022 F1 technical regulations. In fact, Renault indicated that the new regulations benefited them more than anyone else… I'll leave it at that!
