A 508 hp hybrid Peugeot 360 R will materialize in 2020, according to rumors

At the Geneva Motor Show, held a couple of months ago, peugeot surprised showing us a rather interesting hybrid prototype. Responded to the name of Peugeot 508 Engineered Concept, and basically it was a prototype of Peugeot 508R hybrid. Yes, it was a plug-in hybrid with more than decent performance. He quite liked it and, from what the rumors say, could reach dealerships next year 2020.

This is what the French media points out Automobile Magazine, who already dares to pronounce on benefits. If we look at the prototype 508 Engineered Concept, that used a motor thermal gasoline 1.6-liter PureTech, which was combined with two electric thrusters, one of 110 CV for the front train and another of about 200 CV for the rear axle; that is, it had four o'clock drive wheel.

About 360 CV of joint power

Together they delivered just over 400 hp, although the French medium points out that it would be softened for the production one. As they declare, the combined maximum power of the three engines would add 360 hp, which is not bad for the D-segment sedan. In addition, thanks to these adjustments, it would be free of pollution penalties, since it would be below 50 g / km. In Spain, if everything is maintained, it would have the zero emissions sticker.

More weight, but also a sportier setup

The new 508 enjoys a good set-up that, despite being oriented towards comfort, does not allow large inclinations of the bodywork if we increase the pace. Despite this, Peugeot Sport would spread his magic and would be in charge of creating a setting according to the benefits of this hybrid Peugeot 508 R, if everything is finally true and materializes in just a few months.

The worst thing about creating a plug-in hybrid is that the weight increases considerably. It depends fundamentally on the size of the batteries, but if they intend to obtain an electric autonomy of about 50 kilometers, it would not be surprising that these batteries were about 12 kWh, so it would already be noticed. The only positive point is that they are housed in the lower part of the bodywork, so they are lowers the center of gravity.

Benefits?

In addition to the aforementioned 360 CV of joint power of the entire hybrid system, little else can we say. Just note that the prototype seen in Geneva, with 405 hp, approved an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4,3 seconds and a maximum speed of 250 km / h. If it reaches the market, we assume that the maximum speed will be limited to about 180 or 200 km/h to guarantee a correct autonomy, while the acceleration capacity would surely lose between 2 and 5 tenths.
