The growth and evolution Rivian is experiencing is very reminiscent of Tesla's. Both companies are dedicated to the same thing, although the market segment in which they started is completely different. In any case, the market is eager for new offerings that stimulate the creativity and drive of manufacturers. However, not everyone is equally prepared or has the same level of support.
While Tesla has had to fend for itself almost entirely (with the exception of a small investment from Daimler AG and Toyota), Rivian has had it much easier. This is largely because Ford has put several investments on the table (or rather, into their bank account). The largest of these reached $500 million and allowed them to finalize the development of their electric vehicle platform . Now, they are considering manufacturing and would like to expand to Europe.
The partner that would help Rivian to build the factory would be, nothing more and nothing less than, Amazon…

According to several sources, including Automotive News, Rivian is in talks with a European government to build a factory . Apparently, it's the United Kingdom , a country struggling to avoid being displaced in the European automotive sector now that it's no longer part of the European Union. But that's not all; the American company reportedly has the backing of a powerful backer who would significantly facilitate the process.
It's the e-commerce giant Amazon . If the sources are correct, this new manufacturing center would be located near the English city of Bristol. However, if the UK wants Rivian to set its sights on its soil, they will have to make a significant financial investment . All indications suggest it would be close to $1.400 billion , or around one billion pounds sterling.
However, the fact that Rivian and the UK government are in talks doesn't guarantee that the project will remain in the UK. This is because the American firm is also reportedly considering other options , such as the Netherlands or Germany . In any case, a brand's interest in establishing a presence in a European country is very important, primarily to create jobs and help increase our competitiveness.
For the moment, officials at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) have declined to comment. They have simply indicated that they are seeking investment in the country to foster the growth of new industries . We will have to see what happens with the project and whether it comes to fruition. We will be keeping a close eye on the situation, because if it is confirmed, it could spark a conflict with the European Union.
