These renders of the new Toyota RAV4 anticipate its exterior design

  • The current generation of the Toyota RAV4 hit the market in March 2018
  • In 2021 it received a deep restyling that updated its technique and aesthetics.
  • The new generation of the RAV4 will retain the TNGA platform
  • Its evolution will focus on hybrid mechanics, its design and a greater technological load.

The next generation of the Toyota RAV4 is getting closer. The Japanese automaker is working on a refresh, as many of its rivals have already updated their models, while the RAV4 remains true to the design principles of the model that debuted six years ago. The current iteration arrived on the market in March 2018 , and although it received a major facelift in 2021, it has fallen behind its main competitors in aspects such as exterior design and range.

Yes, because although its hybrid system remains a benchmark, the new Volkswagen Tiguan surpasses it. Therefore, its managers have decided it needs to evolve to win back customers who have switched to other brands. The plan involves a major update to the current generation rather than launching a new one. This is because widespread electrification raises many questions about the future, and investments are highly restricted. In any case, these renders of the next RAV4 give us a glimpse of its exterior design . Do you like them?

The new Toyota RAV4 will continue with the design seen in the recent Urban Cruiser…

Toyota Urban Cruiser 2

As we've already mentioned, Toyota won't be releasing a new generation of the RAV4 . Or at least not in the way we're used to, given the high level of uncertainty in the industry. Therefore, since the TNGA platform is so good, their engineering team will focus on a significant, very significant, update. This will be evident in many of its key strengths, such as the design, which, while evolving, will do so in very specific areas.

According to spy photos already circulating online, the new RAV4 will be a blend of the current and future models. Thanks to these photos, graphic designers have been able to create renderings , and these by Nikita Chuiko show what this fusion of current and future design will look like. Almost everything at the front will change, including the headlights, grille, and all the areas that make up the bumper and fog lights. With this, it aims to resemble the new electric Urban Cruiser.

This evolution also makes it resemble the highly successful C-HR , which debuted Toyota's new design philosophy. Looking at the side profile, we notice that, at least for now, there aren't any major changes, as the current structure remains the same. However, elements like the side windows and the lower part of the doors suggest that further changes are possible, as they differ from those of the current model.

The evolution of the new RAV4 will also affect its technology… with more efficient engines…

To finish reviewing its aesthetics, we must talk about its rear end. This section, in the spy photos, is still camouflaged and doesn't allow us to clearly see how it will evolve. However, the renders show that the taillights will be narrower and, thanks to LED technology, will span the entire width of the body. A slight modification to the tailgate is also apparent, as well as the fact that the pillars and rear window will be more vertical than on the current RAV4.

For now, there are no images of the interior of the redesigned Toyota RAV4 . However, it doesn't take a genius to realize that it will be an evolution of what we've seen in the brand's latest models. We'll have to keep an eye on future updates to see what it will look like, as its commercial debut is planned for 2025. There's no official date yet for its public debut, although it should take place in the first half of the year.

Until then, we won't know how the TNGA-K modular platform will evolve. In its case, we know it will change, as it did with the latest evolution of the Camry . The changes will be more subtle, since under the hood the same hybrid engines will remain, albeit with significant fine-tuning to make them more fuel-efficient. Larger batteries are also expected , which should provide an electric range of around 100 kilometers.
