Plugs

The Plugs They are the last component of the ignition system in charge of supplying the ignition spark necessary for the combustion of the mixture inside the combustion chamber. There are different types of spark plugs and most of them may fit in our engine, but it is important to know that each vehicle may need a certain spark plug, among them we have

  • cold plugs
  • hot plugs
  • Tapered Seat Spark Plugs
  • short range plugs
  • long reach plugs

For the correct operation of an engine, it must provide a spark of sufficient intensity and duration to ignite the air/fuel mixture. To have this condition the spark plug must be:

  • It must be free of impurities such as oil, water, dust.
  • There must be no damage to its structure
  • Get the right spark plug for your vehicle
  • Be correctly installed The opening between the upper electrode and the side electrode must be adequate, this can vary according to the manufacturer but is generally from 0.020 to 0.080 in. This opening varies due to the erosion of the electrode, this due to use, for this reason it must be check spark plug periodically since having a large opening does not open enough voltage for the spark to jump, and if it is very small the spark will not be intense enough to ignite the mixture.

Parts of a spark plug

The parts of a spark plug are:

  1. Threaded terminal, it is where the spark plug connects
  2. Insulating, prevents spark jumps in wet conditions
  3. Ceramic insulator, it must resist about 40.000 volts as well as thermal shocks, the internal part can resist temperatures of 2.500 degrees, and the external part temperatures below zero.
  4. This metal part is where the hexagonal key is applied to be able to tighten or loosen the spark plug, the measurement can be 5/8 or 13/16 inches.
  5. Metal body part.
  6. Head
  7. water conduit
  8. center electrode
  9. Seal that prevents gas leakage
  10. Resistance element, which reduces interference with radio and TV (Not all spark plugs have it)
  11. huacha (joint)
  12. insulator tip
  13. Thread, varies between 10 to 18 mm.
  14. center electrode
  15. side electrode.

The spark plugs can be rebuilt, since due to the economic conditions of the country it would be a good alternative
