Going from mixed vehicle to tourism: advantages, disadvantages and process

Renault Trafic Mixed vehicle

In Spain there are many vehicles that when purchasing them can be registered as mixed vehicles or passenger cars. In the first case, there are a series of tax advantages when registering them, such as the exemption from the Registration Tax, although they have restrictions when driving. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see how many individuals seek convert their mixed vehicles to tourism.

How much does it cost to convert a mixed vehicle to tourism? How is it done? What is lacking? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Here you will find All the answers and you will see how easy it is. Seeing what is most appropriate is already a matter for each one.

Advantages and disadvantages of mixed vehicles

+ Cheaper price

SsangYong Rodius 4WD

Despite being a minivan, the SsangYong Rodius can be registered as an adaptable mix, saving up to 4.000 euros

At first it may seem that buying a vehicle as an adaptive crossover is an advantage, since we save the registration tax, which can be up to 14,75% of the value of the vehicle. What a priori is a great advantage, on a day-to-day basis can become a nuisance, and for a particular use, passenger cars have more cons than advantages.

In addition, if in the first four years of the vehicle's life (from the date of registration), we wanted to go from mixed to tourism, we would be obliged to satisfy before Doing the Registration Tax not paid at the time of purchase. If we did this, we would have lost money compared to having registered the vehicle as a passenger car from the first moment.

- Speed limits

speed-130-1

Adaptable mixed vehicles and passenger cars are governed by different speed limits. With a car we are used to driving up to 120 km/h, a speed that we should never reach with a mixed vehicle.

On highways and expressways, the maximum speed limit is lowered to 100 km/h, compared to 120 km/h for passenger cars. On roads with shoulders of more than 1,5 meters, on the other hand, the reduction goes from 100 km/h to 90 km/h. If these speeds suit our rhythm when traveling, opting for a mixed registration can be interesting, in any other way, we will always be more exposed to being fined, with amounts greater than those of a car, since the limits to sanction are calculated downwards for mixed vehicles.

– More frequent ITV

ITV Miranda Ebro

The second disadvantage for adaptable crossover vehicles is the ITV (Technical Inspection of Vehicles), which happens more often. The mixed ones will pass the ITV every 2 years up to 6 years, and every year until they turn 10. From then on, they must pass the ITV every 6 months. A tourism will pass the first at 4 years, and every 2 years until it is 10 years old. From the age of 10, passenger cars pass the ITV every year.

How to go from mixed vehicle to tourism?

Test Volkswagen T6 Multivan 2.0 TDI 150 CV

Converting a vehicle from mixed to tourism is simple, but there is a very important requirement that must be met: the vehicle in question must be homologated by the manufacturer both as a passenger car and as a mixed vehicle. Otherwise, the vehicle type cannot be changed.

  1. The first thing we must do is request a manufacturer's certificate, which reflects how it is possible to go from mixed vehicle to tourism. This report may cost approximately 100 euros.
  2. With the manufacturer's report, you have to go to an ITV and pay the relevant fee to obtain the new documentation with the vehicle classified as tourism (1000) instead of adaptable mixed (3100).
  3. Go to Traffic Headquarters to notify the changes made in the vehicle to avoid speeding fines or penalties with larger amounts.

How much does it cost to go from mixed vehicle to tourism? The answer to this question is difficult, it will depend on the cost of the manufacturer's report and the price of the ITV, but the normal thing would be to move in a fork between 110 and 180 euros.

The Kia house has denied me the certificate for having a DVD installed on the roof. And that they set it up for me themselves. Now I have to find a laboratory to give me the certificate.

I have called Nissan Spain, informing me of the procedures for the certificate to go from a mixed van to a passenger car and they tell me that they do it at the dealership and they do not know what it costs.
I write to Vanauto, the dealership where I bought it and they answer me by email, the post-sales manager, «To request it from the manufacturer, you have to pay us the amount of €275. Amount that Nissan bills us for issuing said report» (I close quotes).
To me, personally, this certificate thing smacks of driving and other tricks to benefit quickly and in the face of other people's needs, from vehicle buyers. And what control do you have? What is the price?… the one they want to ask you for? … and for a CERTIFICATE???.
    Something should be done...
    All the best

News: I have called another Nissan dealer in Seville, DIVESAN and he asks for the certificate, €154, €100 less than VANAUTO. Where do those extra €100 that VANAUTO charges go?
It is a certificate, which according to everyone, is issued by NISSAN ESPAÑA and they are mere transmitters of the order.
And NISSAN ESPAÑA, as commented in a previous text, says that the certificate is made by the dealer. What are they trying to hide with so much passing the ball?

You should comment that when changing from a mixed vehicle to a vehicle, you pay more than road tax and that you could no longer carry cargo as before, so if you do the numbers, in the end it stays almost the same, I get out ppr what is paid for the change. These are things to be valued.

This is something that brands should do completely free of charge in the after-sales service, since it only involves including a chassis number in a template. They seem like total sausages to me, today at Mitsubishi they blew me €217, at the same dealership where the car was bought.
