The revival trend is about to reach a new level with Renault and the new electric R5 . If the French brand and its team succeed with the return of this iconic model, many other manufacturers will want to follow suit. It's no surprise that Fiat with the 500 and BMW with the Mini have not only found success but also great profit. So it's not surprising that models from other eras, like the Opel Frontera , are looking to make a comeback.
Do you remember the Opel Frontera? If not, you should, as it was one of the most iconic off-road vehicles seen on roads around the world in the last decade of the 20th century. And yes, we say "around the world" because it wasn't an original Opel model , but rather an adaptation of the Isuzu Trooper . Well, now it wants the exclusive opportunity to return as a fully electric model to replace the Crossland . Have you already forgotten it?
The new Opel Frontera will replace the Crossland that was born in 2017 when General Motors got rid of the Bavarian firm...

As you know, the Opel Crossland was launched right when General Motors divested itself of Opel to the now-defunct PSA Group. In fact, it was the first model to incorporate French technology, as the Bavarians entered the transaction with a clean slate. The thing is, while it hasn't been a sales flop, it hasn't met expectations either, and to give it a boost, Stellantis has decided to revamp it . Thus, it will now be getting a new name.
The new generation of the Crossland is getting closer and closer, and taking advantage of electrification, it will change to be a bit more practical. Regarding its aesthetics, for now, little can be said, although there are already clues that hint at what's to come. Just look at the teaser released by the brand , which reveals some harsher lines for the bodywork . Clearly, with these lines, they aim to make it more of an off-roader than an SUV, although there will be a trick to it.
If you've looked closely, the teaser for this Frontera shows a larger model than the Crossland currently on sale. Therefore, there will be two body styles to cover a wider market. To clarify, the Crossland will be a twin of the new Citroën ë-C3, and the Frontera will be a twin of the upcoming C3 Aircross, which is just a few months away from its launch. But there's more to the press release…
" Opel has announced the return of the Frontera name in 2024. It will be unveiled later this year and will be a fun car with clever, functional features. It will also showcase a robust new interpretation of Opel's pure and bold design philosophy and will be the first production car from the German brand to bear the new Opel 'Blitz' badge ."
It will be electric and will be technically twinned with the new generation Citroën C3 AirCross…

If we take a look at the official press release published by Opel, we can read that…
"The new Opel Frontera will offer a high level of space and versatility , appealing to both active lifestyle customers and families. The newcomer will also continue Opel's long tradition of bringing affordable mobility to a wide range of customers at an attractive price."
And that's where the trick to their electricity offer lies…
" The new Frontera will be available from the outset as a battery electric vehicle . The arrival of the battery electric variant of the new Frontera, together with the launch of the all-electric version of the next-generation Grandland also planned for this year, will mark a significant milestone in the Rüsselsheim-based brand's transition to a fully electric brand."
Therefore, the new Frontera will be around 4,40 to 4,50 meters long and have seven seats . The last two seats won't be the most spacious in the segment, but they'll be enough to get more than one family out of a pinch. And considering the C3 Aircross that Citroën sells in Mercosur, we should expect something similar. We'll have to keep an eye on its power and range, although we don't think it will stand out with more than 170 hp.
