Chery wants to enter the European market and succeed with its new models . Its commercial strategy still grates on us, but if it goes according to plan, we'll have no choice but to understand it. The fact is, its first commercial foray will be with Omoda and Jaecoo . Both brands are designed to give European customers everything they're looking for at an affordable price. And not only that, although it might sound strange now…
Together with Exlantix, they will create a wide range of electric vehicles . All of them will arrive over the next few years, and the first will be a turning point, helping them gain global recognition for their technology. This is the Omoda 5 EV , which is essentially a major update of the 5 model and will arrive on the market first. And now that its launch is getting closer, we've had access to information that we're sure you'll find interesting. Keep an eye out…
The Omoda 5 EV will have much of the design of the 5 thermal ICE... which will be provided with subtle and slight improvements...

As you can imagine, and as you've already seen, the Omoda 5's design is truly appealing . The latest wave of Chinese vehicles features a design that, while not a masterpiece, is nothing like what we saw a few years ago. Well, as you can imagine, the Omoda 5 EV will sport a modern look that's very much to the liking of European customers. To that end, the brand's designers are already working on several options.
Of all the proposals, this one has the best chance of reaching the production line. According to several sources, it retains all the key design elements of the Model 5, with the addition of several minor improvements. The most obvious is that the front grille is no longer enclosed, as there's no need to cool any engine . Instead, it features a body-colored plastic trim piece with the name OMODA in large letters between the LED headlights.
Overall, it will retain the essence of the "Art in Motion" and "Light of Movement" design codes. The remaining design elements appear to be largely unchanged, although new customization options and alloy wheels will be added to the range . No interior images are available, but it's speculated that customers will be able to choose from four trim levels, two more than the Omoda 5 ICE combustion engine model.
It is not known when the 5 EV will hit the market but it would do so with 201 HP of power and a 61 kWh capacity battery...

However, what interests us most about the upcoming Omoda 5 EV is its technology. The platform will remain unchanged, so it should retain the same technical components, with the exception of the motor. It's rumored that its electric powertrain will feature a 201 hp motor mounted on the front axle . Powering it could be a 61 kWh battery (gross or net capacity is unknown), which would provide a good range.
According to several sources, including Auto Express, it will have (or should have) a range of 480 kilometers between charges , and charging will be possible at up to 110 kW using direct current (DC). This allows the battery to go from 20% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes. Performance figures suggest a 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds, and that it will have three driving modes: Eco, Comfort, and Sport.
