The Volkswgen Nivus is official, will arrive in Europe and will be manufactured in Spain

We've already talked to you several times about the new, and highly anticipated, Volkswagen Nivus . This SUV, with its coupé-like body style, is one of the cornerstones of the range that the German firm has designed. With it, they hope to improve their market share in important regions like South America . For this reason, they have entrusted its technical development and fine-tuning to their engineering center located in the city of São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil.

After several teasers and other tidbits , it's time to get to know it in detail. The official presentation of the Volkswagen Nivus took place a few hours ago and has generated several headlines. The first, and most obvious, is that it will be sold in countries like Brazil and Argentina. Furthermore, its size (4,26 meters) will place it between the T-Cross and T-Roc . But that's not all, because it will also arrive in Europe and Spain.

The Volkswagen Nivus offers a more attractive body than the T-Roc and T-Cross

The Volkswagen Nivus's aesthetics are one of its strongest points . It's unusual, but beyond its SUV coupé silhouette, it boasts unique design elements that set it apart from other models in the brand's lineup. Specifically, although it shares its platform with the T-Cross and T-Roc, it features a slightly different front end . This includes LED headlights that resemble those used on the ID. family.

Another new feature is the larger grille , which now includes chrome accents . The bumper, with its smooth lines, features generously sized air intakes to enhance the sporty feel. From the side, the sloping roofline and the position of the C-pillar are clearly visible. To further emphasize its aggressive stance, it boasts wheel arch protectors and alloy wheels up to 18 inches in size.

Finally, we must take a look at the rear. Just like the front, it features a unique design and layout . The taillights are particularly noteworthy ; as with the T-Cross, they are connected in the center by a black plastic strip. The rear window is smaller and is topped by a discreet spoiler . Below, the bumper has clean lines and integrates a small diffuser flanked by the exhaust outlets.

Known cabin that boasts connectivity

While the Volkswagen Nivus boasts a distinctive exterior design, the same cannot be said for the interior. Here, the German automaker has opted to maintain the familiar essence of its siblings in the range. This means it shares numerous elements with the T-Cross and Polo . Notable features include a configurable digital instrument cluster and a newly designed steering wheel. This steering wheel, as in the T-Cross, can be customized to the driver's preferences.

However, the Nivus exclusively features a technological gadget that will later be available in other models of the brand. We're referring to the advanced Volkswagen Play infotainment system, brought to life by a 10-inch central touchscreen. Among its new features are a 10GB hard drive , internet connectivity, voice commands , and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Finally, the Nivus doesn't neglect safety either. It will include features such as forward collision warning , autonomous emergency braking, an automated parking system, and multiple airbags.

When will it arrive in Europe and Spain? What engines will it have?

And now we come to the most important part. The Volkswagen Nivus will arrive in Brazil and Argentina before the end of the year . It will launch with a limited range, consisting only of the 200 TSI version. This means it will use the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering 115 hp. Power is managed by a six-speed automatic transmission that sends the engine's power to the front wheels.

For the rest of the markets, including Europe and Spain, its arrival is planned for sometime in 2021. What we do know is that it will share a production line with the Volkswagen Polo in Landaben (Navarra, Spain) . The engine options are unknown, although they will almost certainly be similar to those of its siblings. That's the advantage of using the MQB-A0 modular platform.
