To show you how dynamic the automotive sector is, here's a fact. A few months ago, we all thought Mitsubishi would end up abandoning the European market . This was after they presented an industrial plan in which the three-diamond brand would focus on its most important areas of influence. However, in a twist to the plan, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance decided to stay in Europe thanks to Renault…
The objective of this change of plans was very simple: to cover the excess production capacity of Renault's factories. So, without hesitation, they decided to "gift" the Japanese two new models. In case you didn't know, these are the new Mitsubishi Colt and the second generation of the ASX SUV . Thanks to this teaser, we now know more about the latter's engine range and when it will debut …
The Mitsubishi ASX will debut in September to start its sale in the first bars of 2023...

Thanks to a press release, we have this teaser of the new Mitsubishi ASX . It shows what appears to be the tailgate with the brand name in lettering. We didn't know they were making the switch, but it seems to be following the trend and abandoning the three-diamond logo . Lower down, in the lower left corner, is the "ASX" logo . And although it's not very clear, we can make out the taillights, which, judging by their shape, resemble those of the Renault Captur.
And why do we say this? It's quite simple: the new Mitsubishi ASX will be manufactured at Renault's technical center in Valladolid . In fact, it will share a production line with the second-generation Captur, the model on which it's based. That's why the Japanese automaker has opted for a range of powertrains that will include fuel-efficient hybrid versions. Furthermore, a new addition will be a 160 hp plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
To start the range, the ASX will debut the 1.0L MPI-T turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine producing 91 hp . It will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, and CO2 emissions will be between 132 and 136 grams per kilometer. The top-of-the-range version features the 1.3L DI-T four-cylinder engine . Its power output varies depending on the transmission chosen: 140 hp for the 6-speed manual and 158 hp for the 7DCT automatic.
The hybrid (HEV) version combines a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors and a 1,3 kWh battery. Power output is 145 hp, managed by a clutchless, multi-mode automatic transmission. The PHEV version uses the same setup but employs a 10,5 kWh lithium-ion battery . In this case, power increases to 160 hp with CO2 emissions of 30–31 grams per kilometer.
All powertrains will be available from its commercial debut in 2023. However, the range may vary depending on the market. Mitsubishi will announce further details closer to its launch… We'll keep you updated…
