The third generation of the Mazda CX-5 arrives to refresh one of the Japanese brand 's most iconic SUVs , maintaining its family-friendly spirit while adapting to the latest trends in design, space, technology, and efficiency. The new model represents a significant leap forward compared to its predecessor, not only in dimensions but also in connectivity and driver assistance systems.
Since its debut in 2012, the CX-5 has achieved over 4,5 million global sales , establishing itself as a benchmark in the mid-size SUV segment. The latest edition, which is now available for pre-order and will arrive at Spanish dealerships in late 2025, has grown both inside and out, while also incorporating significant updates to its powertrain and equipment offerings.
A larger, more spacious SUV
The Mazda CX-5 has grown in length to 4,69 meters , approaching the size of the brand's larger models. It has also gained in width (1,86 m) and height (1,70 m), which directly impacts interior space and trunk capacity, increasing by 61 liters to 583 liters . These changes particularly improve rear passenger comfort, where access is easier thanks to doors that open almost at a right angle, and where legroom and headroom are superior to the outgoing model.
In terms of design, the CX-5 debuts a more upright and robust front end , with a large grille and longer, dual LED headlights. The profile maintains the model's recognizable lines, enhancing its presence thanks to 17- or 19-inch alloy wheels and more muscular wheel arches. At the rear, the taillights protrude from the bodywork , and the tailgate adopts the trend of displaying the 'Mazda' name in lettering, along with a new rear window design and spoiler.
Digital, functional and comfort-oriented interior
The interior boasts a minimalist and technological aesthetic. The center console and dashboard eliminate most physical buttons, concentrating functions on two large digital screens . The instrument cluster measures 10,25 inches, while the central screen reaches either 12,9 or 15,6 inches depending on the trim level. This system leverages the Google ecosystem , providing access to apps like Maps, Google Play, and Gemini (a conversational AI assistant), as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The range starts with a single mild-hybrid gasoline engine : a naturally aspirated 2,5-liter, 4-cylinder unit producing 141 hp and 238 Nm of torque , paired with a 24V hybrid system. This configuration allows the CX-5 to qualify for the DGT's Eco label and achieves official fuel consumption figures as low as 7 l/100 km for front-wheel-drive versions. The engine can deactivate two cylinders under low load conditions to save fuel. The official specifications state a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 10,5 seconds.
All versions come with a six-speed automatic transmission —goodbye to the manual option—available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive. An expanded engine lineup is expected in 2026 with the arrival of a full hybrid.
Chassis, dynamics and comfort
Seeking to improve comfort and ride quality , Mazda has fine-tuned the suspension (softer springs and dampers), added noise-absorbing material in various areas, and reinforced engine vibration isolation. New tires with lower rolling resistance and recalibrated steering for more direct feel are also included . In all-wheel-drive models, the G-Vectoring Control Plus system helps improve cornering stability by adjusting torque distribution.

The CX-5 is offered in four trim levels: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, and Homura .
