New Dacia Spring: The practical and urban electric car is renewed

Dacia presents a profound update of its small electric car, the Dacia spring. This model was launched in 2021 and quickly made a name for itself in the market for electric cars for individuals, being the third best-selling model in 2022 and 2023 in Europe, which is said soon. More than 140.000 units have been registered globally.

Aesthetically the change is very notable, looking like a totally new model. However, the truth is that maintains the same platform and engines, although Dacia points out that practically all the body parts are new. Let's find out.

The Dacia Spring 2024 changes completely on the outside

As can be seen in the images, the Dacia Spring 2024 has little to do visually with the previous model. Turn to simple lines and take the opportunity to provide a much more technological touch, as can be seen in the upper grille, in the “Y”-shaped LED daytime running light - also visible in the rear lights - or in the lower grille.

As in the rest of the models of the Romanian brand, we have two styles: Expression and Extreme, the second resorting to a more adventurous aesthetic and superior equipment. By the way, it is available in six colors.

The short overhangs and the body relatively separated from the ground continue to stand out. facilitates entry and exit for occupants, while at the rear the bumper, the LED lights and the central strip where we have the brand's inscription change.

To put ourselves in the situation, The Dacia Spring measures only 3,7 meters long, with a turning radius between walls of only 4,8 meters. The weight is 984 kilos in the Extreme finish, the only electric one sold in Europe below 1.000 kilos.

A much more pleasant cabin

If it changes a lot on the outside, it is no less in the cabin. The entire part of the dashboard is new, with a much more elaborate and modern design, which even reminiscent of the new Duster presented months ago. It also has a high level of digitization thanks to a box with a 7-inch screen at a multimedia system that reaches 10 inches in the Extreme finish. There are several USB sockets and even wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Since the platform is the same and the measurements are practically identical, don't expect big changes in the habitability section. The interior will continue to be correct for adults of normal size, taking into account that the journeys will normally be short, of course. When it comes to cargo space, The Dacia Spring's trunk is 308 liters, 6% more than the outgoing model.

One battery, two motors and ranges of about 220 kilometers

If we go to the mechanical section, the Dacia Spring 2024 is available with a 26,8 kWh battery, which offers autonomy close to the 220 kilometers -still pending approval-. This car has a 7 kW charger as standard in alternating current, being able to go from 20 to 100% of the charge in 11 hours if we use a domestic charge; or in 4 hours in the case of having a 7 kW wallbox.

Optionally, you can purchase a 30 kW direct current charger, which allows you to go from 20 to 80% in 45 minutes, but I don't think it makes much sense for particular use in this vehicle. In any case, there is the option for whoever may need it.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the Extreme finish has a V2L bidirectional charger. This means that we can plug an appliance or any device into the vehicle and it will be the car that supplies power to that element. The plug is located on the grille and consists of a traditional 220V/16A socket.

As far as engines is concerned, we have two options to choose from. There is a variant of 45 CV available with the Expression trim level, while with the Extreme trim we can opt for both this 45 HP version and another 65 hp, much more decisive if we are going to leave the urban centers.
