My brake lights don't work, what's wrong?

brake switch

What happens if none of your brake lights are working? Perhaps you've experienced a situation where, suddenly, none of your car's brake lights are working . It's not very common, but it can happen occasionally.

Wow, that's strange, all the brake lights have burned out at the same time and I didn't even notice. Well, let 's replace the bulbs . The process is simple: we take the bulb out and replace it.

When we removed the old bulb, we looked at it and it seemed perfectly fine, as if it were brand new. Is it really burned out, or is the problem somewhere else? Maybe all the bulbs are actually working perfectly.

Well, the problem might be a blown fuse. To check if we're right, we should check the fuses, which are usually located under the steering wheel. Using your car's owner's manual, you can find the fuse for the brake lights.

Fuse box

Okay, we've found it. It wasn't that hard, we changed the fuse and now they work . Are you sure? First, we removed the fuse for the brake lights and checked it… It's perfect! But what's the problem then? Why aren't the car's brake lights working?

If we've reached this point, there's one last thing to check: the brake pedal switch . The problem is most likely located in the brake pedal switch, which, as its name suggests, is on the brake pedal.

To solve the problem, we simply need to replace the switch with a new one . Removing it isn't complicated; however, the physical position we have to adopt might cause us some trouble.

As we have seen, if all the brake lights suddenly fail, the problem is most likely with the brake light switch, which we will need to replace with a new one to solve the problem.
