Since MG fell into the hands of SAIC Motor, the only viable path they've found to gradually increase sales is directly related to the SUV and crossover segment. Today they have two models of this type, called the GS and ZS . These, despite their average quality, seem to have achieved more than decent acceptance in some markets in China, Asia, and Latin America.
Their progress in Europe has been so disappointing that MG 's factory in Longbridge (Birmingham, UK) has had to cease operations once again. However, with the new model they are about to launch, they want to try again to enter the European market. To this end, they have unveiled the new MG HS , a compact SUV that , this time, could really compete with its European and Asian rivals.
Aesthetically, the HS updates the design lines we already saw in the MG ZS , which, in part, give it a resemblance to the Mazda CX-5 . While the exterior boasts elaborately designed headlights and LED technology, the interior quality seems to be exceptionally high. It features an abundance of soft-touch materials , complemented by lacquered and aluminum inserts that blend seamlessly with the leather upholstery on the seats.
To demonstrate to the world the MG HS 's ambitions , the standard equipment will be very comprehensive. Among the features it will include are keyless entry and start , a 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with integrated navigation, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It will also include active driver assistance systems such as lane departure warning and blind spot detection.
The MG HS engine lineup will initially consist of two gasoline options. The entry-level version features a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 170 hp . The range is topped by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 220 hp . Hybrid versions are expected later , while diesel options are currently ruled out.
Its official launch is scheduled for next September, and sales will begin in its home country, China , at the end of the year . The countries where it will be sold, as well as the planned dates, are still unknown. For now, the only information we have is that its international rollout will begin next year. Will it reach Spain and be successful?
