Mercedes-Benz would be working on a Maybach version of the GLS SUV

Mercedes-Benz AMG GLS 63 2016

When the first generation of Nissan Qashqai arrived on the market back in 2006 nobody could predict that the segment of the SUV's would grow to the level we know today. Proof of this is that firms that had never been present in this market niche, or that had little presence, now have a wide range of all roads.

The most notorious examples are told in Porsche with the Cayenne, Lamborghini with the urus, Bentley with the Bentayga or Rolls-Royce with the next Cullinan. However, there are brands, such as Mercedes-Benz that having among its ranks an all-rounder of great size and luxury, like the GLS, is thinking of launching a more ostentatious version on the market to compete against the models of the aforementioned firms.

Bentley Bentayga Hybrid

For that, Mercedes-Benz I would be working on one maybach version for the great GLS. The reason for carrying out this creation is due to the high sales success that the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is reaping in countries where high-end models have a loyal following. For this reason, exploiting the group's most exclusive franchise Daimler AG It is a priority if they want to compete with rivals of the stature of the Bentayga and company.

The work, it seems, would be very advanced since it could be presented in the form of concept at the Beijing Hall which will take place in the month of April, to put it up for sale once it has been made official. Among its main characteristics it would have the traditional nods to the luxury of the firm, as well as a somewhat differentiated design, in order to provide greater exclusivity.

According to statements by a person in charge of Mercedes-Benz

"We have been surprised by sales success of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which is proving extremely popular in many key markets. The plan now is to extend the exclusivity surrounding the name Maybach to the upper end of SUV segment. We are confident that this new model will leave little to be desired in terms of luxury."

The British medium dares to speculate on the platform and engine that will give life to this model. In the first case they point out that it would be based on the new base MHA (Modular High Architecture) of the German firm. In the second case, it would be likely that it would arrive with the gasoline block in a V8 configuration with a 4-liter displacement twin turbo that delivers a final power of 469 CV.

All in all, this insights has not yet been "officially" confirmed by Mercedes-Benz, so we will have to be attentive to the events that take place in the coming days, if it is true that it opens next month in China.
