Mahindra Automotive has been struggling for years to become a major car manufacturer. In itself it already is, but the problem they have with this brand is that they are very limited to their region. Being the second car manufacturer in India seems to be the consolation prize and they have set themselves the goal of surpassing their immediate rival: Tata Motors. And to do so, the focus of their new strategy is total electrification, reaching agreements and partnerships even with Volkswagen.

Over the last few months we have been telling you about Mahindra's adventures. The latest was that, taking advantage of the fact that things are not going well at the Volkswagen Group, they asked to keep 50% of the company that Skoda has in the country. Well, now it is time to tell you what they have shown the world. Two new pure electric SUVs called XEV 9e and BE 6eBoth have a very risky design and really very interesting technical qualities.

Mahindra aims to conquer international markets with the XEV 9e and BE 6e…

Mahindra XEV 9e 1

As you can see The XEV 9e and BE 6e are two prototypes which advance what their respective production models will be like. However, beyond showing a modern, futuristic and groundbreaking design, the most interesting thing is in all the details of its technique. The first detail is that they are based on the New platform for pure electrics INGLO designed by the brand's engineers. With it they seek to create a new family of global native electrics.

One of the technical details of the new INGLO platform is that it has been conceived as a skate. Based on this, the technical configuration of its models is very variable. Thus there will be two different types of LFP batteries with 59 kWh and 79 kWh capacity which can be charged using direct current at a maximum power of 175 kW. Thanks to this pair of batteries, the range declared by the brand will exceed 680 kilometres in the XEV 9e.

The powertrain is another of the base's strong points. It is a Compact three-in-one propulsion system, integrating motor, inverter and transmission with power outputs ranging from 170 to 210 kW. In addition, the platform is adapted for rear, front and all-wheel drive, so it can be used in different models. Added to all this is the arrival of a semi-active suspension or a cable braking system that, according to the brand, improves its performance.

To put into context The XEV 9e is a coupe-type SUV with a length of 4,99 metres. which stands out for one detail: a wheelbase of 2,77 metres. For its part, the BE 63 is a compact SUV that reaches 4,37 metres in length, with the same wheelbase as the XEV 9e and a ground clearance of 20,7 centimetres. In both cases, their design lines stand out for the use of marked edges and very powerful lines that give them their own personality…

Behind closed doors, the use of AI and the new MAIA ecosystem stand out…

To develop both models, Mahindra has had the help of artificial intelligence, as they have been created through software applications. Both models include the new MAIA system which includes the latest advances such as the Qualcomm chip Snapdragon 8295. Along with it there is a 24 GB RAM and 128 GB of memory as well as Wi-Fi 6.0, Bluetooth 5.2 and Quectel 5G that allow connectivity and OTA updates in real time.

In terms of design, the XEV 9e stands out for the Wide Cinemascope that integrates three screens which reach 110 centimetres in width. Safety is improved with 5 radars and 1 vision camera capable of detecting animals, pedestrians and different types of vehicles. As a complement, there will be different functionalities such as EyeDentity or Secure360 that monitor the driver continuously and record everything that happens around the vehicle.

Finally, we must talk about «Electric Origin». Is the new brand that Mahindra has created to sell its new electric models worldwide. With this, they hope to start their offensive by the end of January 2025 with the launch of both models in the main markets of the globe. They have announced that the first deliveries to customers will take place in February or March, although it remains to be seen what will happen with Europe… We will see…
