Lotus announces the first details of its new LEVA electric platform

Project LEVA innovation in Lotus electric sports car architecture

La electrification of the automotive sector has caused all manufacturers to accelerate their Plans. Those who have a larger structure and are economically solvent have an advantage over those who were not so up to date. Hence the Grupo Volkswagen, Stellantis o General Motors They are finalizing high-level news. But there are also smaller ones that, thanks to the money from their parent companies, are starting to give a lot to talk about.

Lotus is one of the latest manufacturers to jump on the electricity craze. Of course, if it hadn't been for Geely's help, they would never have been able to take the step. The first model of the new Lotus era is the Evija, but more will come after it, many more. To this end, over the last few months they have worked very hard on the Project LEVA. If you do a little memory a few months ago we tell you what it consisted of and, now, they announce the first data.

Lotus could create 2-seater and 2+2 models with single and twin engine configurations…

As you well know, and if we don't remind you, the Project LEVA has as its mission development of a base for future Lotus electrics. In fact, its official name is: (Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture) and as you can imagine it is very versatile. Thanks to this platform, Hethel's house engineers will be able to shape models as varied as an SUV the size of the Porsche Cayenne or a cousin of the future Alpine.

The first model that would see the light on the CAM base would be a two-seater with 2,47 meter wheelbase. In this case, the drivetrain would have a single 350 kW of power and a lithium ion battery 66,4 kWh capacity. The second would increase the battle to the 2,65 meters and its powertrain would have two engines with an output of 650 kW. For its part, the battery pack would increase the capacity to 99,6 kWh.

The third Lotus to be born on this basis would be a 2+2 seats and with a 2,65 meter wheelbase. In this case the power train could be simple, with 350 kW, or double with 650 kW of performance. For its part, the battery would have the least capacity, settling for a lithium ion accumulator with 8 modules and 66,4 kWh. The great advantage of this platform is that it allows the battery to be accommodated on the floor of the platform or behind the seats.

Another competitive advantage is that the rear structure is 37% lighter than in the Emira V6. And up to here we can read, because Lotus limits itself to indicating that the next step of this project is related to the models that they are going to manufacture on this base. For now we have an idea when these models will arrive, but the dates could vary depending on how the work progresses. We will continue to wait...
