Lexus RX: The fifth generation debuts with up to three hybrid versions...

Lexus RX 500h Heat Saphire Blue 5

The Lexus RX is one of the most exclusive premium SUVs on the market . The first generation was launched in 1998 as an evolution of the SLV (Sport Luxury Vehicle), which debuted at the 1997 Chicago Auto Show. Interestingly, it has also had a more affordable counterpart throughout the years: the Toyota Harrier . And not only that, but it has sold a staggering 3,5 million units worldwide.

So, given the importance of the RX, Toyota's premium brand has worked hard to shape a fifth generation . We've talked about it several times, most recently a few days ago. That's when Lexus released an official press release confirming its public debut . Well, after several days of waiting and a few teaser trailers, here we have the new RX. Take note, because it's the most German of them all.

The line of the new Lexus RX is more mature and less risky...

First, the aesthetic evolution of the fifth-generation Lexus RX demonstrates the brand's maturity. A prime example is the front end, which reinterprets the "Spindle Grille" concept. The full LED headlights are slimmer than on the outgoing version but retain the L-shaped daytime running light pattern seen on other models in the range. There's also a redesigned bumper with different air intakes depending on the chosen trim level.

The side view, while new, remains true to the familiar concept. The most striking feature is the evolution of the darkened C-pillar , which creates the illusion of a floating roof. The difference in dimensions is also noticeable here. The difference is subtle, but the new Lexus RX has a 6-centimeter longer wheelbase and is 1 centimeter lower. Furthermore, the center of gravity has been lowered by 1,5 centimeters. Finally, it debuts new 21-inch alloy wheels.

Finally, there's the rear. Following current trends, it features new full LED taillights that span the entire width . These are connected in the center by a thin, functional LED strip. Just above, the Lexus logo disappears, replaced by the brand's name in capital letters. The lines of the tailgate follow the simple and attractive pattern seen in the rest of the bodywork. As for the bumper, it varies slightly depending on the engine version…

Modern and technological interior that maintains the essential physical controls…

Inside, the new Lexus RX boasts a modern and technologically advanced design . Highlights include the new configurable digital instrument cluster and the 14-inch central touchscreen. Together, they provide the driver with comprehensive information, consolidating much of the vehicle's data. Notably, bucking the current trend, it retains physical controls for the climate system.

It's noteworthy that the start button is positioned high up, right between the cockpit and the display. The "E-Latch" system for opening the doors is also a highlight . It's an interior button that, when pressed, automatically opens the door, similar to the NX and RZ models. We also can't overlook the layout of the controls that the brand has placed on the center console. Especially the transmission selector, which is small, ergonomic, and high-quality.

In security, the new Lexus RX includes the third generation of the system Lexus Safety System +. It now incorporates an improved pre-collision system, proactive driver assistance and an advanced safety package. This is another of the new RX's strengths. The choice of materials and the visual quality are top-notch, especially the optional synthetic leather upholstery. Interior space is another highlight, thanks to a longer wheelbase that provides more legroom. Finally, the trunk capacity hasn't been announced yet, but it's confirmed that there won't be a seven-seat version.
