Lancia Ypsilon: After leaking in an accident here comes another teaser

New Lancia Ypsilon 2

The triumphant return of the Lancia Ypsilon is drawing ever closer. Thanks to the confidence placed in them by Stellantis and its management, the Italian automaker is making a significant effort to make up for lost time. Moreover, its executives are developing a powerful product plan . This plan is highly ambitious, aiming to capture 80% of the market with three electric models. And the first step in its new chapter is very, very near.

Lancia is aware that a lot is at stake with this new venture . The opportunity is unique, and they can't afford to lose the trust of their parent company, because if they fail to meet the targets set, they could disappear again. In any case, the arrival of their new B-SUV is drawing ever closer, and it seems things aren't unfolding as planned. Its design has been accidentally leaked , and to counteract the effect, these teasers have been released.

The new Lancia Ypsilon shows part of its attractive front in this teaser…

Before we tell you what happened with that accident, we'll show you the latest teaser released by Lancia . A few days ago, the Italian automaker celebrated its 117th anniversary, and to mark its continued vitality, it unveiled the first teaser of the new Ypsilon . It didn't reveal much beyond what appeared to be a "table" or platform for placing items on the dashboard. Later, we learned that it's the new "Tavolino" (small table) for the Pu+Ra.

Well, today we're going to talk about the front of the new Ypsilon. The teaser released by the brand doesn't reveal much of its design, but it does give us an idea of how the front of the Pu+Ra Concept has evolved . Now we know how they've reinterpreted the classic "chalice" grille that has been used on all the brand's models throughout its history. In this case, they've reinterpreted it with three LED light strips that form a new and recognizable "Y".

Now, the new Lancia grille will no longer feature the brand's logo . The brand name, rendered in satin-finished steel (not backlit), will instead be displayed in a "calice-lettering" typeface. Finally, their press release states that…

" The front end, inspired by the Lancia Beta Montecarlo, will be glossy black to better highlight the new Lancia lettering, as was the case with the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE Concept."

Even so, there's a small detail we can't overlook, and we might see it in another teaser. A light appears to be visible in the outer corner of the bumper . It seems circular, but we can't confirm it yet, although the leak almost does. The grille is also hinted at with a series of rectangles in a row, but this element isn't confirmed either. So, we'll have to talk about what we've seen in the unofficial leak…

Although it has already been completely leaked thanks to the accident they had recording their launch video...

Lancia Ypsilon accident

As you know, the official debut of the new Lancia Ypsilon will take place next February . It will arrive as a limited edition called the Ypsilon Cassina Limited Edition, with only 1906 electric units produced. As is typical, with the release date so close, the company has begun filming the promotional video. Unfortunately, while filming the official clip, they had an accident and the car fell into a lake.

And naturally, given the commotion, more than a few onlookers have gathered at the scene, capturing the rescue efforts for the unit in question. Thanks to these "spy" photos, we can reveal some previously unseen aspects of its final design. For example, the new Ypsilon brings back the logo on the C-pillar, just like the iconic Y. Furthermore, this element is in a contrasting black tone which, given the white vehicle, makes it appear wider.

Another detail worth mentioning is the circular taillights, reminiscent of those on the Pu+Ra HPE Concept . Naturally, they differ, featuring a black background broken by a mask that allows the LEDs to shine through. The front end is the only area lacking images. While there is a picture showing a small portion, the photographer wasn't very good. Perhaps that's why Lancia has released this new teaser.

Finally, we need to make an important clarification. Until now, the new Ypsilon has been described as an SUV, not a city car. Everyone believed, because the brand led us to believe it, that we were looking at a premium-designed B-segment SUV. However, thanks to this leak, it's confirmed that this isn't the case; we're looking at a city car that will be almost identical to its cousins, the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa . The main difference will be in its quality and design…

We'll see…
