The Lancia Ypsilon has been, is, and will be the Italian marque's flagship model . It has not only proven itself to be the best-seller it is, but it also stands shoulder to shoulder with legendary models from other brands. It's also the model that has kept the company alive until now. If that weren't the case, it's highly unlikely that Carlos Tavares, at the helm of Stellantis, would have bothered to bring it back. And as a reward, it will be the first new model in its relaunch…
As you know, Lancia will be making a comeback in Europe next year . We say Europe because it's still alive in Italy, and even though the Ypsilon is a veteran, it's number one. But now it will return with a new Ypsilon that many won't like, as it will abandon its classic design to reinvent itself as an electric B-SUV that's sure to generate buzz. And to confirm that it's very close, here's the first official teaser . What do you see in it?
The first teaser of the new Lancia Ypsilon arrives today, which marks 117 years since the founding of the firm…

The first thing you should know is that today marks the 117th anniversary of Lancia's founding . As you can see, it's one of the oldest car manufacturers still operating, so it's more than well-established and steeped in tradition. Therefore, the company has decided to kick off this new chapter by celebrating this milestone in style with a first teaser of the new Ypsilon generation. With this teaser, they're launching their celebrations, as this model is vital to their future.
According to Luca Napolitano , CEO of the Lancia brand…
"The day we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. Today marks the rebirth of the Lancia brand with the first image of the Lancia Ypsilon , the first of the three vehicles in our Strategic Plan."
He completes his statements by giving some clues about the Ypsilon hidden behind this teaser . As he explains…
“We celebrate this moment together with Cassina, the epitome of Italian design excellence , by presenting the Lancia Ypsilon Edizione Limitata Cassina , a 100% electric car , limited to 1906 numbered and certified units, to commemorate the 117th anniversary of the brand’s founding. Thanks to our collaboration with Cassina, this car becomes the ultimate expression of the feeling of home aboard a Lancia, emphasizing attention to detail , materials, colors, and spaces, introducing the first-ever ‘tavolino’ (small table) in a car to make you feel at home, wherever you are.”
Therefore, his words make it very clear where the new Ypsilon is headed. We're looking at a premium B-SUV that aims to steal customers from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus . And be warned, with this firm commitment to exceptional quality and groundbreaking design, it could be a real success. Especially now that Audi is discontinuing the Q2 and Mercedes no longer has control over Smart. Meanwhile, BMW, with Mini, is playing in a different league, and the Lexus LBX is the most exotic of the bunch.
But what do you see in him? Is anything clear?

So, to make that initial splash, we have a groundbreaking Ypsilon. The first 1906 units (a nod to the year the brand was founded) will be 100% electric, numbered, and certified . They will bear the Edizione Limitata Cassina name and will mark a new step for the brand. This is primarily because the new Gamma and Delta models will follow, forming, according to Stellantis' plan, a solid and appealing range for customers.
But let's get to the important part. What do you see in the teaser? Nothing? Indeed, although it seems strange, it's the new "tavolino," which is none other than the "round table" that the Pu+Ra Concept had between the front seats. And in this case, it's the version that will reach the market, finished with the finest details. But it won't be until February 2024, so we won't be able to see it in its entirety, although perhaps some previews or leaks will help...
