Now, those responsible for the firm go one step further and present the second installment of the interesting Kia Niro.
The announcement of the debut came a few days ago, when the firm published a series of official teasers. In the photos, black prevailed, but elements such as the optics and some tension lines of the bodywork were left in the light. As you can see, because it is evident in the images, the aesthetics of the new Kia Niro is more aggressive than that of its predecessor. It now sports a powerful front end that draws inspiration from nature and the choice of colour, material and finish to strike a perfect balance between an environmentally responsible approach and a future-oriented outlook. This is what those responsible for Kia call meeting the spirit of "Joy for Reason".
Up front, the distinctive "Tiger Nose" grille extends from the hood to the lower splitter. The optics are larger and present a Heartbeat Shape LED DRL Daytime Running Light. To put it in some way, they follow the trail seen in the new Sportage, although here they are more exaggerated and striking. Moving to the side view, we also see that the proportions and design lines are bolder and more attractive.
Here, we have a wide "C" pillar which, according to Kia, reduces airflow and helps improve aerodynamics. This element blends with the boomerang-shaped rear lights thanks to the fact that it is painted in another tone that contrasts with the rest of the bodywork. For its part, the gate presents straight and well-defined lines in contrast to the tended rear window and the spoiler that crowns it. Nor can we ignore the tires, the footrests or the roof bars.
Modern, technological interior full of ecological materials
If the exterior of the new Kia Niro is original, inside those responsible have opted for a classic scheme. The basic design lines are clean, helping to offer well-studied ergonomics. Overall, it stands out the curved screen that encompasses the digital instrument panel and the touch display in the center. We do not know the size yet, but it should be around 27,5 inches as a result of combining the measurement of one and the other device.
The rest of the controls that we can find, such as those for the air conditioning, are analog, distancing themselves from their rivals. On the other hand, we cannot forget the ventilation outlets, ambient lighting, or two spoke steering wheel. If we take a look at the central tunnel, we see that the controls to govern the transmission or the driving mode selector take a dial design that simplifies the action and reduces distractions.
For now, the mechanical range of the new Niro is unknown...
To finish, we must talk about the mechanical range of the new Kia Niro. According to the official press release that Kia has published will be available with HEV, PHEV and EV engines starting next year. The other details have been reserved for later, so they will follow a presentation strategy similar to that of the Sportage.
