Kia Concept EV5: What if we are facing the new electric Sportage?

Kia Concept EV5

After a long wait, a few days ago we finally saw the new and impressive Kia EV9 . The flagship model from the Asian automaker officially debuted, demonstrating that they, too, can create models of this type if they so choose. In other words, a large electric SUV packed with technology and boasting a level of finish that many premium brands envy. However, the biggest news wasn't the EV9, as its unveiling was expected. It was the new Kia Concept EV5.

Does the Kia Concept EV5 ring a bell? That's understandable, since the Korean automaker unveiled it at a different event. To be more precise, at the Chinese EV Day, which they held almost simultaneously with the EV9's debut. That's why it's been somewhat overshadowed by its bigger brother , but we want to tell you its purpose. And when you find out, you might even like it, especially since it sports the new Digital Tiger Face LED daytime running lights …

The Kia Concept EV5 has debuted at the "Chinese EV Day" and it is not yet known if it will be the future Sportage EV or if it will arrive in Europe...

Besides sporting the new LED headlights, the Concept EV5 uses the latest evolution of Kia's Opposites United design language. All in all, it looks like a miniature EV9, distinguished by the treatment of the side bodywork . And by the large, attractive 21-inch alloy wheels that fill the oversized wheel arches with prominent plastic moldings. Not to mention the absence of door handles and the distinctive window cutouts.

The rear also boasts a minimalist design that, from a distance, might remind you of Volvo. Just look at the C-shaped full LED taillights embracing the new Kia logo in the center of the simple tailgate . Furthermore, the rear window is modestly sized and the bumper design is straightforward. Its starkness is only broken by a thin chrome strip that runs from the side skirts and forms the elegant diffuser.

The interior of the Kia Concept EV5 stands out thanks to its dashboard with a large screen . We also can't overlook its newly designed octagonal steering wheel or the capacitive controls below the screen in the center of the dashboard. And that's not all; as in the EV9, its seats can swivel to facilitate entry and exit through the doors, which are pillarless and open in opposite directions. All of this is finished in shades of gray, matching the exterior.

Well, if you've made it this far and you like what you've seen and read about it, we have some "bad news." Yes, the Concept EV5 is planned to go on sale in China in the coming months . But the brand hasn't revealed whether it replaces any model like the Sportage, what platform it uses, or what its electric powertrain is like . Oh, and most importantly, whether or not it will come to Europe…
