Jaguar and Land Rover are committed to growth, modularity and connectivity

Jaguar E Pace

The Indian conglomerate Tata Motors is finalizing the strategic plan that Jaguar and Land Rover will follow until 2024. With this new roadmap, both brands are expected to continue increasing their sales, and therefore profits. The rationale behind this strategy is that they must leverage their extensive experience in developing the highly marketable SUV segment better than any other competitor.

The core pillars on which they will focus their future are the expansion of their model range, technical and mechanical modularity , and connectivity and new technologies. To achieve this, they must launch up to three new products between now and the end date of this plan , each based on two new modular platforms.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

Apparently, the three products we're talking about are the next generation of the iconic Land Rover Defender , the new Jaguar J-Pace SUV , and the electric Range Rover (known as the Road Rover). In addition to the arrival of these models, their lineups need updating, starting with the best-selling Land Rover Range Rover Evoque , which we'll see at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

On a technical level, the first platform Jaguar Land Rover engineers have reportedly been working on is the PTA (Premium Transverse Architecture) . The new Evoque is being developed on this platform , and it will serve as the basis for a new family of compact vehicles for both brands. The second platform, internally known as MLA , will replace the current aluminum platform that underpins the larger models of both companies.

The model that should debut the MLA platform is the next Land Rover Defender , which is expected to arrive on the market in 2019. Both platforms should be compatible with a new family of Ingenium internal combustion engines , as well as other alternatives such as electric or hybrid powertrains . Finally, on a technological level, Jaguar Land Rover executives are reportedly considering the possibility of remotely updating their models to ensure they never become obsolete.

We should see all these new features in the upcoming models from both brands. The first to arrive on the market could be the Jaguar J-Pace, followed by the Range Rover . Neither will be launched until 202 and 2021, respectively, so we'll have to wait for further updates.
