How often do I have to pass the ITV?

ITV

One of the most common questions among those who do not have a special interest in the motor world is to know How often do I have to pass the ITV?.

Although it is true that we receive a letter at home notifying us that the review date for our vehicle is close, it is better to have things clear just in case.

Private passenger cars are exempt up to four years old; from four to ten years the inspection will be every two years; and those over ten years old must pass it every year.

It is also necessary to pass the ITV when the vehicle suffers an accident that could have damaged its structure, or when important reforms are carried out.

What happens if I do not carry out the review or do it after the deadline?

The ITV cannot sanction for going to do the review after the deadline, and they are obliged to carry out said test without any surcharge.

On the other hand, if the traffic agents request the documentation and verify that the ITV is out of time, they can impose a fine of up to €1.500.

What documentation must be submitted to carry out the ITV?

To pass the ITV it is necessary to present the Technical File of the vehicle and the Circulation Permit. For the ITV by reform, other certificates may be requested.

What happens if I can't pass the ITV?

In this case, the ITV will give us up to two months to correct the detected defects (the exact term depends on the type of defects detected) and they will retain the ITV card, which does not allow us to circulate with the vehicle except for its transfer. to the workshop and back to the ITV station for further inspection.

Once the defects found have been fixed, all you have to do is go through the ITV again to verify that the vehicle already meets the necessary requirements.

If after the vehicle repair deadline, we do not go through the ITV, it will send the ITV card to the DGT Provincial Headquarters, proposing the effective removal of the vehicle.

How much money does it cost me to pass the ITV?

The price varies depending on the autonomous community in which it is carried out, but it is usually around 30 Euros for gasoline vehicles and 33 in the case of a diesel vehicle, since these types of vehicles have to carry out a special gas test.

Hello, I would like to ask you a question. I have bought a second-hand car and they have told me that I have to pass the MOT, the car is registered in March 2.006, therefore it is 2 years and a few months old, because I have to pass the itv if the first time should be when I was 4 years old, in Renault, which is where I bought it, it says that it is how they buy them and register them in their name as a rental car without a driver, that is why, the question I have to take the itv sticker, or if on the contrary I have no obligation to wear it because they have given it to me and I don't know if I have to put it on and the truth is that I would not like to put it on as it is not mandatory, please I would like you to answer me if it is possible. Thank you

Let's see... it turns out that I wanted to write two little things,...
The first is that the fact that they keep the vehicle's technical data sheet has already gone down in history... now they put an "unfavorable" stamp on you and in the inspection report, which by the way you also have to carry with you, is where They give you the defects and the result of the inspection….
Another thing is also that the term they give you to fix it does not depend at all on the defects,...
etc, etc... By the way, where did you get this information from? I think you know something but you haven't been fully informed... I guess the easiest thing is to look for all this information in the official gazettes, which in addition to being public, are quite detailed...
by the way, is that I have worked in the itv. That is why I have dared to correct certain little things… ah! and the price has also changed… something that is also in the last update of the boes….
and lastly, dear sebas, vehicles have a periodicity (which is how it is called9 according to the type of vehicle and also according to its use... that is why the rental cars that come to provide private service... and what Lastly, (because if I don't stay here until so many...) WEARING THE STICKER IS MANDATORY, but as I always say, everyone is free to learn this as they want, either by asking where they should or,... upon payment of the fine, he he
    greetings to all.

Hello, what you say that diesel vehicles cost €33 must be a joke and the good ones in Valencia charge you €63 just twice as much because here in Valencia we are smarter, dumb or more thieves than anything, please say where they charge €33 which is worth knowing

Certainly anonymous, the sticker is mandatory like the report, it can even cost you a fine, not points, as many people think. and the prices thing is laughable, because in the north it costs around €30 and in the Spanish Levante €65 and rising and another thing is that in 5 communities a fee is charged for the 2nd inspection while in the other 12 they do not. they do, as it is a mandatory service throughout Spain, which I think is convenient and I don't object to having to pass the inspection, I think it should equate prices and rates throughout the territory.

Hello, the question is: I bought a second-hand car that was a taxi, now it is private and when I passed the MOT when it was my turn they told me that for six months, the car is just 5 years old and I emphasize IT IS NO LONGER A TAXI, step to private service. Why do I have to do it at six months when the normal is at two years?

I bought a Renault registered in June 2010, and bought in August 2011, according to Renault dedicated to renting without a driver or fleet, I am an individual, in the technical file or circulation permit it says to pass the ITV at 2 years, this means June from 2012.
it's possible? both renault, as management say that it is. Can you please guide me what I should do. Thank you

         flavio said

Jose, what you have to do is transfer the vehicle that was dedicated to renting without a driver, change it to a private person... it is the same case with my sister... otherwise you will have to comply with the MOT every 2 years! salu2

Hello, I bought a seven-seater vehicle, which was fulfilled by the MOT on the 20th of
September, and that day I went to pass it, what was my surprise when they told me, that since I had changed it to my name on September 30, I was not obliged to pass it until that day, they passed it to me and they gave me a year and ten days of validity
    Is this really so?
