Helmut Marko: that character that never ceases to surprise negatively

Helmut Marko

Helmut Marko is that controversial figure at Red Bull who has made famous statements that have caused a stir or reopened old wounds. He was the one who made that statement before this season saying that everything about the coronavirus was being exaggerated, and then look… This is understandable, since not many expected it to be this serious. Perhaps many people thought it would be like the H1N1 flu, etc., but no…

What's truly unacceptable are the other stupid statements he's made, to which we've become accustomed. This individual's recklessness led him to consider creating a championship to infect his drivers with coronavirus. Yes, he instructed Red Bull to use its Driver Academy to have its drivers participate in pre-season competitions with the aim of "immunizing" them. He proposed this idea to the team's management.

Ecclestone and Marko

Sometimes Marko is reminiscent of certain ideas of Mr. Ecclestone, except that in Bernie's case he says some truthful things that not everyone dares to say, and he's even right, although at other times he speaks nonsense. But in Marko's case, the truth is that every time he speaks he tends to be quite annoying, with foolishness that is rarely insightful or constructive criticism, but rather thoughts he spits out without thinking for a second.

Can you imagine if this competition had been given the green light? And what if the drivers and other team members got infected? Can you imagine if one of them died or needed critical care in the hospital? And all because of the recklessness of someone like Marko … Because, as we're seeing in Europe, young people and people without pre-existing conditions are also dying. It's not just a simple flu, as was initially thought.

Judge for yourself : “ We have four Formula 1 drivers and eight to ten juniors. The plan was to go to the championship with the whole team. This way they could work physically and mentally during this period and also risk getting infected. It would be entirely positive because they are young and therefore strong. […] In my small circle, we discussed it first, but I can’t say they received it positively. ”

It's a shame he hasn't caught the common sense of others , like Fernando Alonso, who says that " racing is the number 1000 priority now ."
