The Ford Ranger is one of the most well-known pickup trucks in the world . Since the Blue Oval launched the first generation, its history has continued to grow. The best proof that we're dealing with a giant among giants is that many manufacturers have tried to copy it. Remember the Mazda BT-50? Well, it's not the only one, as this latest generation, which we're presenting today, will have another sibling.
In any case, we're here to tell you about the evolution of the Ranger. In recent weeks, the brand has released a series of teasers hinting at the path they've chosen for it. Well, the wait is over, and we can now share the main details. Don't get your hopes up, though, because even though it's official, they've kept a few secrets to themselves . As you'll see, there aren't many, but they are vital to knowing whether it will be a success or not…
The image of the new Ford Ranger is more muscular and powerful… following in the footsteps of the F-150
First, we need to talk about the aesthetics of the new generation Ford Ranger . If you cast your mind back, you'll remember we warned you that it would resemble the F-150. Well, we were right, as it boasts a powerful front end with very similar headlights. They feature full LED technology , and the daytime running light design is virtually identical. The large grille and its internal mesh pattern are also noteworthy.
The side view, although completely new, appears unchanged. This is because it maintains simple lines that prioritize functionality and cargo capacity . However, the wheel arches are more pronounced, and the wheelbase has grown by 5 centimeters. Thanks to this, the interior space is more generous, especially in terms of legroom. The wheels and decorative trim are also noteworthy.
Finally, there's the rear. Here, something similar occurs to the side profile, although the cargo bed appears wider . The taillights, as with any good pickup, are vertically oriented and, although new, give it a resemblance to its larger siblings. The tailgate maintains its simple lines and the ability to transform into a work surface. Furthermore, it proudly displays the Ford logo in the center and below it the "RANGER" lettering that identifies it.
Higher quality interior where connectivity takes center stage

Inside, the evolution of the new Ford Ranger is remarkable . The basic design lines are simpler and more minimalist, although it doesn't stray too far from Ford's latest releases. However, forget the previous model, because the new one embraces digitalization in every aspect. Furthermore, it uses (at least visually) much higher-quality materials in areas such as the dashboard.
Among the elements that have been "civilized" are the transmission selector and the drive mode selector . In fact, Ford says that passengers will feel like they're in a "normal" vehicle aboard the Ranger, rather than a work truck. Regarding technology, the Ranger will be able to receive over-the-air updates (Ford Power-Up) , a 360-degree surround-view camera, and headlights with full LED matrix technology.
The mechanical range relies on diesel, with a V6 version included...

Finally, we'll discuss the powertrain options for the new Ford Ranger . As expected, Ford continues to favor diesel, and there are several choices available. The entry-level versions will feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with either one or two turbochargers. The single-turbo option will be available in two power levels, while the twin-turbo will offer only one, but according to Ford, it will maintain remarkable fuel efficiency.
At the top of the range will be a new 3.0 V6 engine developed specifically for the Ranger. Its performance figures are currently unknown, but it could approach or exceed the 250 hp of the Power Stroke version already used in the F-150. These engines will be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission . A 10-speed automatic transmission will also be available.
When will the new Ranger hit the market…?

According to Ford's official press release, the order books for Europe will open at the end of 2022. If all goes according to plan, the first units should reach customers in early 2023. Therefore, there's still some time before its arrival, so we understand they'll use this lull to keep the hype going. Above all, to gradually reveal the details they've been keeping under wraps … Patience, folks…
