The SUV craze has forced many manufacturers to rethink their future . There are many examples, and one of the most notable was Ford. They eliminated their sedans and lower-demand passenger cars from their lineup to focus on new SUVs. General Motors followed suit, although their approach was different: they committed to electrification from the outset. The result: roads around the world are now teeming with these vehicles.
That's why segments like sedans, minivans, and sports cars are so badly affected . However, there are still categories that remain strong despite the challenges. We're referring to the muscle cars that we love so much on this side of the Atlantic. The Ford Mustang is the benchmark, and although its sales have declined in recent years, it will remain in the brand's lineup. Take note, because the seventh generation is coming soon.
The seventh iteration of the Ford Mustang will keep the 6-speed manual transmission… and should debut in 2023…
Over the past few months, rumors about the seventh iteration of the Ford Mustang have been plentiful . More than we would have liked, but the brand's silence only fueled the online gossip mill. Of all the rumors, the one we liked best was the one claiming it would abandon combustion engines in favor of electric power . However, with the latest press release published by the company, the rumors and false claims have finally come to an end.
A quick glance reveals that Ford will invest $2 billion in its factories in Michigan . The result of this investment, in addition to hiring approximately 3.200 employees, will be the following…
"Increase production of the new F-150 Lightning electric truck to 150.000 per year at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn. Produce an all-new Ranger pickup at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, and an all-new Mustang coupe at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant ."
Therefore, it's already known that the new generation Ford Mustang even has an assigned factory . It's the same one where the current generation was manufactured, so it could retain most of its mechanical components. But there's another small detail we can't ignore. Along with the press release is a teaser that hides a secret. The pattern of a six-speed manual transmission is concealed within the "O" of "Generation"...
Therefore, we can assume (and this is just a guess) that the EcoBoost and Coyote V8 engines haven't died in the Mustang lineup . In any case, it seems their debut won't take place until 2023, with sales starting as a 2024 model. We'll keep a close eye on Ford's news, especially to find out if it might arrive in Europe... Patience...
