Taking advantage of Monterey Car Week (USA), Ferrari has unveiled the 488 Pista Spider to the world . This model, which is simply the convertible version of the 488 Pista Coupé we saw a couple of months ago, allows the brand's customers to enjoy its 720 hp on the track, or any road, with the sky as their only roof.
On a technical level , the main difference between the 488 Pista Coupé and the Pista Spider is that the latter has a retractable hardtop located behind the seats, which is why the chassis has been reinforced to improve its rigidity. Furthermore, due to the addition of the electric roof folding system , the 488 Pista Spider is on average 100 kg heavier than the coupé version, increasing from 1.280 kg to 1.390 kg (dry weight).

Another detail that distinguishes the Coupé version from the Spider is that the latter lacks the translucent cover over its engine , as this space is used by the roof to conceal it when driving with the top down. The remaining aesthetic and aerodynamic elements introduced in the 488 Pista Coupé are retained in the Spider, most notably the S-Duct front grille and the active diffuser at the rear.
Mechanically, it features the familiar 3.9 -liter twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine that produces 720 hp and 770 Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear axle via an efficient 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. All in all, it reaches a top speed of 340 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2,8 seconds.

From an aesthetic (and dynamic) standpoint, one of the new features of the Pista Spider compared to the Pista Coupé is the addition of 20-inch alloy wheels , available exclusively with this body style. However, for customers looking to further reduce the Pista Spider's weight, carbon fiber wheels are an option , offering up to 20 percent lighter than the forged aluminum versions.
Unlike the Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta, the model the 488 Pista Spider replaces , its production will not be limited. The main point, which wasn't revealed at its presentation, is the final price when it hits the streets. In any case, considering its power and exclusivity, we could bet it should be around 400 euros.
