SUVs have dominated the market with an iron fist since the Nissan Qashqai was launched in 2007. And the worst part is that the public, in general, has wholeheartedly believed that the Japanese model created a whole new segment. In case you've forgotten, there are older models on the market that paved the way. Among the many that the market has seen come and go are the Honda HR-V, Land Rover Range Rover, and the now-legendary Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Did you know that this American model arrived in our lives in 1992? So, if my calculations are correct, this year, 2022, marks three decades since it began its journey. Its official debut took place at the Detroit Auto Show with a triumphant entrance that astonished those present. The fifth generation, which was unveiled a few months ago and hasn't yet arrived in Europe, is the most complete, luxurious, and exclusive of them all. Don't you think?

In case you didn't know, the first generation Jeep Grand Cherokee was born with a specific goal: to combine the comfort , technology, and finishes of luxury sedans with the versatility and robustness of SUVs. And not only that, but it also boasted a truly comprehensive equipment package for its time. Features included alloy wheels, power windows, airbags , ABS , heated seats and mirrors, climate control, and leather upholstery.
The second iteration arrived in 1998, debuting the Quadra Drive all-wheel-drive system , which also featured three limited-slip differentials. Interestingly, the uniframe chassis limited vibrations and noise. Then, in 2005, the third generation was born , the closest to the emerging SUV trend. Compared to its predecessor, it was smoother and also featured a new double-wishbone suspension.
It wasn't until 2010 that the fourth generation was born , with powerful versions like the SRT Hellcat . Its arsenal of new features included the Select Terrain electronic system, the Quadra-Drive II low-range transfer case, and the Quadra-Lift suspension, which allows for adjustable ground clearance. Furthermore, in 2013, an 8,4-inch touchscreen display, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a ZF automatic transmission were added.
And so we arrive at today, with the fifth generation about to launch. It will feature 4xe plug-in hybrid versions with 380 hp and 637 Nm of torque, up to 51 kilometers of electric range in urban areas, and three driving modes: hybrid, electric, and e-save. Furthermore, it boasts features such as a 10-inch touchscreen, the Uconnect 5 system , and significantly higher levels of luxury and refinement.
