As I'm sure the vast majority of you know, these days the Black Friday 2023. There are many of us who take advantage of some of the thousands of offers that are presented these days to make online purchases. Of course, all these orders arrive at our homes by road transport. The DGT is aware and, logically, they take the opportunity to make a new security campaign.
As reported by the General Directorate of Traffic itself, they have launched a new special campaign of van surveillance, having joined some Local Police. This campaign will be active until next Sunday, November 26 and will be carried out especially on conventional roads, as well as in areas close to shopping centers, industrial estates and loading and unloading places.
DGT controls of all kinds for Black Friday
It goes without saying that in these controls they will check all the aspects related to road safety, such as the speed at which they circulate, the correct placement and weight of the transported load, as well as the ITV and documentation of the vehicle and the driver.
According to estimates, during this week it has been calculated that they can make up to 4,6 million daily shipments, most of them by vans. The DGT says that in 2022, these types of vehicles were involved in more than 9.200 accidents with victims, in which 221 people died. Of that number, 79 were occupants of the vans and the rest were occupants of other vehicles and pedestrians. Also 210 people traveling in vans were hospitalized for injuries.
Traffic accidents continue to increase
On the other hand, the DGT emphasizes that the percentage of traffic accidents rose last year, going from 4,6% in 2021 to 5,1% in 2022. We hope that the DGT campaign really contributes to reducing this data.
It must be taken into account that, although vans and light commercial vehicles are increasingly similar to passenger cars in terms of safety and behavior, there are still differences in their dynamic capabilities, which also increase depending on the load and how it is distributed in the vehicle.
