Volkswagen's SUV range offers a wide range of possible models and different bodies. The Volkswagen T-Roc stands as one of the smallest units in this family, just below the Volkswagen Tiguan y Volkswagen Touareg, but above the smallest of all, the Volkswagen T-Cross. The four models make up one of the best-selling ranges on the market.
We have tested this car:
Test Volkswagen T-Roc R of 300 hp 2022 (with video)Test Volkswagen T-Roc 1.0 TSI 110 CV Life 2022 (with video)Test Volkswagen T-Roc Sport TSI 2.0 190 hp DSGThe first time we heard about the T-Roc was at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014. At that time, Volkswagen presented the product to us as a prototype. After three years of development and tuning, in mid-2017, the T-Roc became a reality at the Frankfurt Motor Show of that course. The beginning of a stage that is still going on and that maintains it as the fourth SUV in the history of the house.
Over the years the T-ROC has been progressively updated, until In the summer of 2025, a completely new generation will be introduced., the second. Over the years we have seen other versions or body styles. After the hardtop SUV, the convertible version made an appearance, the Volkswagen T-Roc Convertible, and also a sports unit, the T-Roc R which has been launched on the market as the most performant of the whole family.
Technical characteristics of the Volkswagen T-Roc
With the appearance of the T-Roc, Volkswagen has two models for the compact SUV segment. But unlike the Tiguan the T-Roc enjoys a smaller version of the well-known MQB platform EVO of the Volkswagen Group. The same used by other known products such as Skoda Kamiq’s most emblematic landmarks, the Listen Q2 or own Volkswagen Golf.
As we already said, the structure of the Volkswagen T-Roc is specially adapted to specific measures, which are: 4,37 meters long, 1,83 meters wide and 1,56 meters high. These dimensions are shared for all versions. To them we must add a wheelbase of 2,63 meters, which translates into an interior space approved for a maximum of five passengers.
The rear seat enjoys a fair and correct space, so it is better not to exceed a total of four passengers. A fifth will cause rear-row occupants to ride uncomfortably, both because of poor shoulder room and the presence of a marked transmission tunnel. The trunk volume increases for its second generation, reaching a minimum of 465 liters. This figure can be increased to over 1.000 liters if the second row of seats is fully folded down.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Volkswagen T-Roc

As expected, the latest generation of the Volkswagen T-Roc includes significant mechanical updates. The mobility offering is updated with the addition of hybrid variants, which the popular German SUV had not previously had access to. In fact, The new T-Roc is the first Volkswagen to use hybrid powertrains. which replaces traditional diesel systems. More engine options will be added later, including a plug-in hybrid variant.
The T-Roc hybrid has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine paired with an electric motor capable of propelling the vehicle itself for short distances or periods of time. In the early stages of its commercial cycle, it offers two different power levels: 116 and 150 horsepower. Management is derived from a seven-speed automatic transmission. In Spain, it receives the ECO label from the DGT (Directorate of Traffic), along with the many advantages that this represents.
Equipment of the Volkswagen T-Roc

Inside, the second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc has undergone a significant overhaul, both in terms of equipment and quality. The interior presentation is improved with new compounds, although hard plastics are still overused.Despite this, like any Volkswagen, everything is well designed and with the ever-present sense of durability typical of German models.
As usual in the house, Volkswagen offers different equipment levels: Base, Launch Edition, Plus, R-Line and R-Line 1st Edition. All of them not only vary in the equipment and available technology, but also in the exterior and interior aesthetics, as well as the customization program. The R variant, with more power and a sportier look, is expected to arrive later.
In terms of equipment, the T-Roc offers the usual features. Important features include full-LED headlights, a 10,4-inch digital instrument cluster, and dual-zone climate control. The multimedia system with a touch panel up to 12,9 inches, voice control, connectivity for mobile devices, keyless entry and start, voice control via ChatGPT, and even a Head-Up DisplayOf course, it includes a wealth of safety equipment and driver assistance features.

The Volkswagen T-Roc of Km 0 and Second Hand
The popularity of the SUV segment has not stopped growing. Many buyers seek to acquire this type of models. However, the high cost of the T-Roc causes many customers to opt for secondary sales channels. Throughout these few years of sale, the German SUV has earned a good reputation for durability. This, added to the fact that it is a Volkswagen product, means that its depreciation percentage is slightly lower than that of its closest rivals.
If we take a look at the used or second-hand market, we find a wide range of possibilities. Few of them exceed 100 thousand accumulated kilometers. The most affordable units are around 18.000 euros, and if we move to the Km 0 market we see how prices do not differ greatly with direct orders. The Km 0 stock is very complete with different solutions, mainly conventional units of medium power and standard finish. Prices start around 24.000 euros.
Volkswagen T-Roc rivals

The compact SUV segment has grown exponentially year after year, to position itself as one of the main segments in the car market, which is why many brands want to have their own model. The competition of the Volkswagen T-Roc is made up of models such as the Citroen C3 Aircross, Hyundai Kona, KIA Sonic, Ford Puma, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, SEAT Arona, Nissan Juke y Mazda CX-3, among others. To them we can add different more premium cutting units, such as the aforementioned Listen Q2’s most emblematic landmarks, the BMW X2 or MINI Countryman.
