El Toyota CHR It is the Japanese brand's commitment to the competitive European C-SUV segment. Presented for the first time at the end of 2016, the hybrid SUV introduces its first restyling shown at the end of 2019, and later in 2023, launch its second and completely new generation on the market. It is manufactured in Turkey and since its launch it has been a bestseller that has even surpassed the capabilities and imagination of a giant like Toyota.
We have tested this car:

To that we can add a hybrid concept that is worth winning the DGT ECO label and all the advantages that this entails. Some of the main novelties of its second edition is the increase in size and the incorporation of a plug-in hybrid version with the DGT ZERO label.
Technical characteristics of the Toyota C-HR
Beneath its sculpted and contoured silhouette lies the latest version of the brand TNGA platform (Toyota New Global Architecture). At the time it was the company's first model to be fitted to later be used in other vehicles such as the Toyota Corolla. Its development has been carried out to house different mechanical solutions, all of them electrified.
Due to its dimensions, the Toyota C-HR fits perfectly into the C-SUV segment. 4,36 meters long, 1,80 meters wide and 1,55 meters high. Finally we can add a battle of 2,64 meters, which translates into a fair but correct interior space with not too many luxuries for the occupants of the rear row. Up to five passengers can be accommodated in its cabin.
With a single body possible, the C-HR penalizes part of its trunk to leave space for part of the hybrid scheme. Under the floor of the trunk certain components such as batteries are installed. That leaves us with a slightly lower load capacity if we take into account its competition. 388 liters is the minimum capacity. The plug-in hybrid has to make do with 310 liters of minimum volume.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Toyota C-HR

As we have already said, the Toyota C-HR only has electrified versions for the Spanish market. With the launch of its second generation, the compact crossover has increased its offer with two hybrid versions and a plug-in hybrid. As standard, all versions send power to the front axle through a continuously variable automatic gearbox called e-CVT.
By features, the range starts with the C-HR 140H. It is made up of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine that is accompanied by an electric drive and a small-capacity lithium-ion battery. Offers a maximum power of 140 horsepower. Above is the C-HR 200H. Its four-cylinder engine grows to two liters of displacement. It is also made up of an auxiliary electric motor and the same battery. Develops 196 horsepower. In both cases the electric range is limited to a couple of kilometers.
As a novelty in the range and situated in the upper performance zone, we find the Toyota C-HR 220PH. It is a plug-in hybrid with a two-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that is accompanied by an electric motor and a 13,6 kWh capacity battery. Develop 223 horsepower and an approved electric range of 66 kilometers. For recharging, opt for high-power systems, both direct current and alternating current.
Equipment of the Toyota C-HR

In its idea of offering a lot at a contained price, Toyota presents us different trim lines for the C-HR: Active, Advance and GR Sport, plus the special launch edition called Premiere Edition. Although each one has the same appearance as the previous one, the higher finishes not only give rise to more equipment, they also give access to the most powerful mechanical version in addition to some particular aesthetic details such as two-color paint.
In the base finish, that is to say the Active, we have certain elements that for many clients will be enough. Highlights include keyless entry and start, electric tailgate opening, light and rain sensors, rear camera, LED headlights, Toyota multimedia system with 8-inch screen and the complete Toyota Safety Sense safety equipment.
Higher finishes mainly give us access to greater aesthetic options of the C-HR, such as the aforementioned two-color paint or 18-inch wheels. But obviously if we opt for these finishes we obtain the maximum amount of technology possible. In them we find adaptive LED headlights, digital instrumentation, 12,3-inch central screen, parking cameras, dual-zone climate control, upper instrument panel, sports front seats, ambient lighting and much more.

The Toyota C-HR according to Euro NCAP
As is common and customary after launching a new generation on the market, the European body in charge of monitoring and analyzing the safety of all cars, Euro NCAP subjects the Toyota C-HR to its tests during the summer of 2024, certifying it with five stars. The highest possible score. The results by sections are as follows: 85 out of 100 in protection of adult passengers, 86 out of 100 in protection of child passengers, 86 out of 100 in pedestrian vulnerability and 79 out of 100 in ADAS systems.
The Toyota C-HR of Km 0 and Second Hand
The C-HR is a model of great success in the firm and in the market. Despite having been launched at the end of 2016, the high number of sales has led to a wide range of models in the second-hand and occasion channels. The prices of these units start at 16.000 euros with a very low depreciation rate for the consistency that a brand like Toyota always provides.
The available offer on the Km 0 channel it focuses exclusively on first generation models since the most recent units have not yet arrived in Spain. Dealers offer the little stock they have left with a basic rate of around 27.000 euros for models with 125H access mechanics.
Rivals of the Toyota C-HR

SUV, compact and electrified. If we look at these three premises we see how there are not many rivals in sight for the Toyota C-HR, but yes there are. His two main targets also come from Asia. On one hand the Kia Niro, launched on the market practically at the same time as the Japanese, and on the other hand the most modern Hyundai Kona in its hybrid variant. Between the three they try to dominate a segment that at the moment is not very exploited. Without a doubt the leader at the moment is the C-HR.

Toyota C-HR prices
The new generation has suited the C-HR very well. Thanks to the introduction of new mechanics and more equipment we can say that it is a better car, but that has caused a slight increase in rates. The starting price of a Toyota C-HR stands at 31.750 euros for its finish and base mechanics. The most expensive starts its budget at 48.150 euros. In this case we are talking about a C-HR PHEV with 223 horsepower and a ZERO label from the DGT.
