Tesla It has become the reference in the electric car market worldwide. The Californian manufacturer, chaired by Elon Musk, has managed to set the standard and the path to be followed by the rest of the manufacturers. His cars are highly desired, although he has been the Tesla Model S the one that has really placed the brand in the position it occupies today worldwide.
It was launched in 2013. Although today we consider him a regular model on our streets, the first time he made an appearance it was a revolution. A 100% electric car with a great design and an absolutely normal appearance. It quickly became a mass success, although its features and price differ greatly from each other.
In 2016 Tesla took advantage of the launch of other models such as the Tesla Model 3 to make a small update to its flagship model, in addition to a subsequent European relaunch in early 2023. Slight aesthetic, equipment and also mechanical tweaks are added, becoming a single unit in the fleet, the most powerful and expensive of all that exists.
Technical characteristics of the Tesla Model S
The development of the Model S is based on a platform developed by the manufacturer that can be adapted to different solutions and used in different models, as is the case with the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model X. Composed of high-strength steels, the biggest drawback is its high weight, which in the best of cases does not descend from 2.290 kilograms.
It is an excessive weight for a sedan integrated into the E segment, as revealed by its measurements. 4,97 meters long, 1,96 meters wide and 1,44 meters high. To these generous exterior dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,96 meters. A battle that translates into a very generous interior space for a maximum of five occupants.
Initially, the Tesla Model S had the peculiarity of having two extra seats under the trunk floor, but these disappeared after the 2016 renovation. Currently, the saloon offers two trunks, one at the front with 60 liters and one at the rear with a minimum volume of 745 liters, expandable to 1.645 when the second row of seats is folded down completely. It is one of the largest trunks in its category.
Mechanical range and gearbox of the Tesla Model S
Looking ahead to the update at the end of 2022 and subsequent relaunch in European markets, Tesla wipes out the different mechanical units, focusing exclusively on the most powerful version of all. It has a dual motor scheme that generates all-wheel drive and offers a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery with a net capacity of 100 kWh. For recharging, high power systems are chosen, up to 250 kW, which allows very short charging times.
The only version available on the market is the Model S plaid, considered one of the most powerful sedans in the world. With a combined power of 1.020 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2,1 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 322 kilometers per hour. Thanks to excellent efficiency and an average consumption approved in the WLTP cycle of 18,1 kWh per 100 kilometres, The approved autonomy reaches 600 kilometers.
Equipment of the Tesla Model S
Since its launch, the Tesla Model S has become a technological reference within the segment and the industry. Its minimalist layout focuses all the equipment details on a large 17-inch screen in central arrangement. It comes as standard and there is no possibility of exchange with another.
Despite being considered a premium brand, Tesla has always sinned in manufacturing quality. The materials are pleasant to the touch and convey a high sense of quality, surrounded by improved technology for the 2023 edition. It is true that much has been improved in recent times, but it continues to present an interior worse than similar models, mainly German.
As far as equipment is concerned, Tesla relies primarily on AutoPilot technology. A complete team of radars and sensors work together to increase the safety of the occupants. Although it is sold as a self-driving model, the reality is that the driver still has the responsibility to drive. To this detail we can add others such as automatic door opening, LED headlights, sunroof, heated seats and much more.

The Tesla Model S according to Euro NCAP
As far as security is concerned, the Tesla Model S is one of the most reliable sedans on the market. Its rigid structure was put to the test by Euro NCAP in 2022, obtaining the highest possible score, five stars. In these tests, the following scores were obtained: 94 out of 100 in safety for adult passengers, 91 out of 100 in safety for child passengers, 98 out of 100 in behavior of assistant drivers and 85 out of 100 in safety for pedestrians.
The Tesla Model S of Km 0 and Second Hand
No one can deny that Tesla has changed the way we think and move. The American brand has quickly established itself as an aspirational brand. Although many do not consider it as a premium manufacturer, the prices, features and technology of its cars do place it as such.. That means added value in alternative sales channels, where Model S prices are barely degraded from factory prices.
Given that the first units corresponding to the restyling of the end of 2022 have not yet landed in Europe, the Km 0 market is non-existent. If we want a unit we will necessarily have to look at the second-hand or second-hand market. In it we see that the cheapest units start at figures close to 33.000 euros for 2017 models with more than 170.000 kilometers. The most expensive models can easily exceed the barrier of 100.000 euros.
Rivals of the Tesla Model S
The Tesla Model S has been the first of its kind. A 100% electric sedan that has shown the world that sustainable mobility is really possible. His rivals are not too many because in Europe many manufacturers prefer to opt for electric SUVs due to their high demand. But if we have to look at possible rivals, it is worth mentioning above all the Porsche Taycan, we can also know other similar units such as the mercedes eqe or The Audi e-tron GT. All of them are similar in size, although the American is the most powerful and expensive of all..

Tesla Model S Price
After having removed the access versions for Europe from the map, sales prices have skyrocketed. In Spain, the starting price of the Tesla Model S stands at 139.990 euros, without offers or promotions. That amount can grow slightly depending on the desired optional equipment or if we are looking for a more personalized configuration in paint and upholstery.
